Walking vs. Intervals

What will maximize my results, walking at a consistent pace for 45-60 minutes or doing intervals of walking/jogging/running for 30-45 minutes?

I try to jog/run as much as I can but my asthma doesn't allow me to last very long. I've just started getting up at 6 so I can go out before I leave for work so I'm trying to get the best results with the time I have to work with.

If mixing it up is better, do I still need to go as long?

Thanks,
Christine

IMHO, a good program would be 2 interval sessions for every 1 steady-state session. And make your interval sessions 45 minutes, and your steady-state walking 60 minutes. Try to go as fast as you can in your steady-state session without losing good stride and trunk form (when you walk faster than you're up to, your gait gets a little weirded out and that can be counterproductive).

IMHO squared, if you rely exclusively in interval sessions you'll get too acclimated to them and too efficient. Keep mixing it up.
