walking vs. aerobic tapes

I currently do an aerobic tape (i.e Firm,Taebo, etc) 7x's a week. I always do some weights and toning 7x's a week. I am considering changing my workout to walking, but I am not sure if this will give me the same kind of results. I am approaching my mid 30's and have noticed some weight gain :( !!! I'm wondering if I need a change of workout or what. If I do decide to switch to walking I would stll incorporate some weights and toning into the routine. What do you think? Has anyone ever tried this switch? Do you think I can burn enough calories walking and how far should I walk? LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

Re: Walking vs. Aerobics

I had incorporated walking in my
workouts for several years
now--every May through
September, I walked 5 miles once
a week as a substitute for one
of my high intensity workouts (I
do 3 high intensity aerobic
workouts , plus 3 weight
workouts, & 2 lower intensity
aerobic workouts per week), this
5 mile walk took me about 70
min., & it was intense in terms
of length (I also used 1 lb.
handweights.) Lately, though, I
haven't been able to get enough
intensity from walking, plus I
had a hamstring injury that made
walking a litle painful, so I
started skating--boy, does that
ever get your heartrate up! I
think that walking would give
you a good workout if you
alternated with some running
intervals (I haven't tried this
yet, but I plan to try it in a
few weeks, or I might stick to
skating, because it's so much
fun, just wish I knew how to
stop, etc.) If you have been
doing intense workouts indoors,
you might find, like I have,
that walking feels pretty wimpy.
If you are concerned with your
weight, maybe you should revise
your eating habits. I hope his
helps some (I hope it's not too
confusing.)
