Walk / Run for the Cure

Hi Everyone,
Wish me luck this Sunday as I'm going the CIBC Run for the Cure in support of Breast Cancer research. It's 5k. I've never done anything like this before. I will only be walking but my goal is to be able to run it next year!!!

Funny story though, I've unburied my treadmill and took a break from Step for a while to get myself ready to do this 5k. So I set my treadmill's program (I normally do a walk 90 seconds, jog 30 seconds for the duration of time cause just walking I get too bored) but instead of going by time, I decided I'd go by distance and see how long it took to do 5k. So I set the interval program and distance as 5. Hhhhmmmm, taking a lot longer then I thought. So I finish and I worked up a good sweat. I look at my manual for my treadmill - distance is measured in miles not kilometres!!!! Yikes - so instead of doing 5k I was doing 8k. At least I know I can do it!!!!

I actually got pumped up doing this and decided I'd add that workout into my rotation at least once a week and gradually increase my speed / distance but I'm starting at 5k!!! So certainly once I can run 5k, I'll be estatic. I shouldn't say run, it's more like a jog. I'll work myself up to running over the winter!

Anyway, everyone send good vibes for the walk on Sunday and please ask the weatherman to be nice (it was 1 degree here overnight!!!) Right now, it says chance of rain, high of 15. :(

Good luck. I started doing the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure many years ago - just walking. Last year I ran and actually finished in the top 300 (usually 45,000+ racing). I'm going to run again this year, October 17. Once you do something like this type of "race" you will go back every year. Good luck!

Good luck in your race today! What city are you in? The same walk/run is being done here in Edmonton today, too. And it's chilly with a good chance of rain. You wouldn't happen to live up the street from me, would you? :D

I'm so sorry I didn't see your post before your race! I'm sure you had an amazing run, and bless you for going out there for such a good cause!

I'm doing one as well (is yours through a Tanger outlet?), and also hoping for good weather (though I've stocked up on some cooler-weather walking gear, I really don't want it to be 'cold,' and I'm not doing it if it's raining or too cold).

Have fun, and see you on the other side!
