Vitamins

I take a Solgar Multi Vitamin, Vitamin D, Solgar fish oil, and a Co-Q10. Everyone at work gets colds a lot and I seem to avoid them!

None. I just don't like supplements and they always upset my stomach no matter what kind I take. Oh wait I do take a Vit B12 sublingual everyday. I am veg and understand that is important. My DH, on the other hand, is a supplement junkie and always has the "magic pill" of the moment.

What I take and why:

Bilberry - for the IC (interstitial cystitis) its just a low dose now when I first discovered it I took a full course for a few months. It put a stop to a terrible pain that I had for seven years. It cleared up bleeding in the lining of my bladder.
Marshmallow root - IBS
Evening Primrose Oil (EPO)- PCOS
Fish oil - uncontrollable hungries/ insulin issues
Triphala- IBS/villi repair (works like a champ btw.)
Probiotic- IBS
gymnema sylvestre- for when I have a higher carb meal (rarely)
Magnesium- headaches, IBS, happy bones
horsetail- hair/nails cause of my PCO makes it thin

My schedule:

Upon waking: 2 Triphala
With AM meal (post workout): 2 EPO, 2 Marshmallow root, 1 fish oil, 400 mg. magnesium,
With Lunch (post yoga): 2 EPO, 2 Marshmallow root, horsetail, 1 Bilberry
Before bed: 2 Triphala, Probiotic

I used to take a multivitamin but since I got sick this spring I stopped it was irritating my GI tract. Also, excess iron is not necessary.

12 - I eat mostly vegan and have been having issues with enlarged red blood cells

B6 - seratonin production (I have had bouts of depression and sleep issues)

5-HTP - depression/sleep issues

D - live in a northern climate and use sunscreen

biotin - had a episode of hair loss last year

probiotics - last year I went on antibiotics (erythromycin) for an extended period of time to clear up my adult acne. I stopped after about 6 months when I figured that my stomach problems were probably caused by taking this drug (duh). This is also around the time that my red blood cell size started to rise and my hair fell out.

Rapid breath... can I ask if you've noticed improvements since taking vitamins for IBS? I suffer a lot from IBS...what benefits do your supplements give you?

a.m.: Fish oil, D, occasionally E and selenium, occasionally a vision supplement (with lutein)

when I get to work: C

p.m.: Amealbp (an over the counter supplement that supports healthy blood pressure), either a strong multiple (Centrum Silver for women) or b complex plus CoQ10 plus calcium plus magnesium

I know some docs say we don't need supplements but I've been a supplement junkie for 30 years and I really do think it makes a difference, at least for me.

Oh Good Lord - what DON'T I take?

A.M.:
multi vitamin (Shaklee)
calcium
fish oil
glucosamine
biotin
acidophilus
DHEA
*Quadracarn (this is a Beverly International supp)

mid-morning:
liquid ionic minerals
liquid glucosamine
bee pollen

p.m.
multi vitamin
fish oil
calcium
glucosamine
vit C
bee pollen
Quadracarn

I'm sure I'm missing some, but that's most of them

I agree with Diane. My supps make a HUGE difference for me.

I prefer to get my nutrients from whole foods or whole-food-based supplements/superfoods, but I do take a multivitamin (on days I don't have a Vega smoothie, since Vega contains a lot of vitamins/minerals), B12 (on days when I don't have the Vega or the multivite) and D (on days when I don't feel I've had the necessary sun exposure.

I try not to overdo it with supplements because I eat a healthy diet, but i do take a multi v every morning and twice a day I take flaxseed oil and glucosamine.
