Veneer wearers--is this a good deal?

You may remember I posted a few weeks ago that my dentist said veneers would help all the damage I've done to my teeth from over-brushing & grinding at night.

Just had my 2nd visit & he said he'd do both top & bottom for $3600, & that I could pay him $100 a month for 3 years. He said he'd probably lose money w/the time but he felt strongly that I needed them to prevent tooth loss & root canal down the road. Darn that man for messing with my cynicism & making me think there are actually well-meaning people in the world!

So what do you guys think? It seems affordable & obviously I could pay more when my monthly budget allowed (which hopefully would be every month). Seems like a pretty good deal, but I don't know much about Lumineer pricing.

Oh, & he did say they were virtually indestructable, which is not the case w/bonding. I had bonding done 5 years ago (9/11 to be exact, it was NOT a good thing) & they've been a disaster. I've had 2 bad chips in the last 4 weeks & he says I've already brushed away most of the bonding already too. x(

I dont see how veneers can prevent tooth loss and root canals.

Veneers are only placed on the surface of teeth, having nothing to do with the roots. And that is where tooth loss and root canals originate.

I really dont understand this post.

The last poster is right Lauramax, veneers do not fix any problems like root canals or other things, I had my whole mouth done about two years ago. Its great! But I had a bridge done, and all my cavities redone, etc...they capped these teeth. The front teeth have veneers now. I did break one about a month ago, my fault, I was chomping on ice like crazy! Never a smart move to do, with or without veneers. He fixed it though, and its fine now.

However, back far away from the Lumineers!x( I originally had them, and they would break off randomly. I was at work and one chipped off, one chipped off in my sleep too. It was a horrible nightmare, they are very poor quality, and good cosmetic dentists will not go near them, especially if like me (and it sounds like you do) grind your teeth! Please spend the extra money and get the good ones!

I was told that the veneers would cover the entire tooth up to the gum, that they were virtually indestructable, & would therefore prevent further erosion of my gums & enamel from my brushing too hard & also prevent further damage from my night grinding.

Now do you understand this post Madonna?

tneah, I'll check & see what system he uses. It's not too late for me to back out, although I am surprised to hear of your troubles. It sounds just like the problems I had w/the bonding, but bonding is a much different system. Thanks for the info!

:)

ETA: he is also fixing the other damage--mostly chipped teeth in the back of my mouth--before the veneers are put on.

Personally, I love the Lumineers and they don't have to do all of that grinding down of your teeth to put them on. I don't know about the erosion stuff. I got my front teeth done because I had a gap I didn't like.

What a huge decision. Good luck and do your homework (sounds like you are). I am a grinder too and I need to start wearing my night guard again.

Just my two cents here.........make sure you have a reputable dentist. I only speak from experience.

Good Luck.

Good luck!
