update on my school

I'm not sure if anyone remembers me talking about thinking of going back to school and changing jobs but I wanted to give a little update. I am taking my first Paralegal class this spring and it is online (through the local college) and I love it! I just finished taking an exam in the comforts of my own dining room. I have signed up for a summer class called Business and the Legal Environment and then 2 in the fall called Legal Terminology and Criminal Law. I'll then have about 6 more classes to take and then do an intership for 16 weeks somewhere. My end goal is to work for the state's prosecutor in criminal law (I guess I've watched too much Law and Order huh?). I'm so excited about having a job that I will actually use what I went to school for. I already have a 4 year business degree with a specialization in marketing. I've been at my job for 10 years now and haven't used a single ounce of it (I was first hired on as the secretary). So, that's how it's going. Thanks for listening.

Kim-Good for you!-I'm still struggling with what I want to be when I grow up although I think I'm getting closer to an idea- I've been a stay at home mom for 16 years now so I gots to get back at it--deb

Kim, I think that's great. I have earned my 4 year business degree in January, and so far have only been considered as an admin. assistant aka gopher, secretary/treasurer or door to door sales. Oh, yeah, retail manager, at around a whoping 26000 a year. It is definately not what I had intended. While I continue my search and since I was previously a teacher's aide in the school system I began working as a Substitute Teacher.

I had started to earn my teaching degree before my business venture, but could not afford out of state residency, and settled for what my local college could offer, B.B.A.

To make a long story short, I found working as a teacher, is what I should have been doing all along. I will keep my business ventures open somewhere, maybe eventually as a principal of a school system, but right now, I'm going back to either finish up in school counseling or get my master's in teaching. It's crazy, you think you know what you want, and then real life just comes along and gives you a kick in another direction. At least life is never boring:):):)

Congratuations on making a move towards your happiness. I have a feeling with your intiative you will do great things.
