update on my mom

3kids

Cathlete
My mom got her CAT scan results yesterday. They found another nodule in her lungs. They are both fairly small but they want to do a full body scan to see if there are any tumors. Apparantly these type of things, if they are tumors, do not originate in the lungs. So she now has to wait because Medicare does not approve of this scan unless you already have been diagnosed with cancer. Don't you just love health insurancex( Hopefully, one of the possibilities it could be is calcium deposits. Also my dad has to have a colonoscopy because he has been having problems that he has been ignoring. Boy when it rains it pours:-( It's getting harder for me to move. Thank goodness I still have about 3 weeks here. Just wanted to inform all of you wonderful people who have been praying for us. Thank you all so much and hopefully I can report back with some good news!

Waiting is hard. What works for me in difficult times is taking one day at a time.

Hmmmmm.

Don't know how comfortable I'd be with waiting. Cancer can spread very fast. Was that the doctors personal opinion? What insurance will pay for is one thing, but what does she need RIGHT NOW?? I would definitly inquire about the urgency. My father had a very agressive lung cancer and by the time we fould it it was in his brain. They said it had not been there long, like a matter of weeks to a couple months! (it was agressive small cell lung ca). If we would have caught it earlier, he may have had a chance.

What do you mean when you say these things "apparantly don't originate in the lungs"?? Lung cancer does. Unless they feel your mom's nodules are benign? If not, that is like saying she has some other type of cancer that has METS to her lungs. That makes a PET scan even more urgent! Is that the type of scan they are talking about doing, or another CAT scan? If it is a CAT scan, I would STRONGLY advise you to try and get it done earlier if possible. I know out of pocket is so hard but wow, how will you feel if it ends up being cancer and you waited six months and gave it opportunity to spread?? A PET scan is very good at lighting up cancer cells but is very expensive.

I am not a medical doctor, of course, so the opinion of your doc is what counts, but I do understand your situation. Losing my father so quickly to lung cancer has really made me a bit paranoid. If it is small cell, it will move fast. I now know how fast. That said, you can never be too cautious. Lung cancer is very deadly, even if you don't have the most aggressive type. I am praying for your mom hoping you will only hear good things from here. Take care.

just lots and lots of hugs my friend. my dad is battling as well. they were about to do stem cell transplants but they found the lymphoma has now spread into the bone marrow. they still going to do chemo treatments but he is not doing much better with the news. before he was happy had a sense of humor but he didn't look good other then when we all came over with my nephew. we are grateful b/c he will be with the veteran's hospital all the way to the end. but i hope you mom can get what she needs without all this insurance BULLS***.

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers:)

Janice, My mom is waiting for the OK for the PET scan. And trust me, we WON'T let it go past this week. If they don't want to pay, I know my family will pool money to get it. The way the Dr. told her is this could have started in the thyroid or breast if it is cancer. Now this is my mom telling me, she was a little out of it understandably. We know for sure it is not breast because she just got her mammogram and that is something I push her about. She has hypothyroidism and graves disease but the strange thing about this is she does not have any symptoms. I think that is why the Dr. is so stumped. She just had her physical and the blood work and ultra sounds came back great.(She has kidney problems also) So we are praying it is something else. We kid her that she has enough radiation in her with all of her tests that she scares all cancer cells off:) Wouldn't that be nice? Thank you again and God bless you all!

Still thinking and praying for you all. (Will pray that it DOES scare off those cancer cells! :7) Keep us posted. It has to be so hard when you know you have to move soon. Take care of yourself!!!

So sorry you are going through this with your mom. :( I'm sending prayers for both your mom and dad. Take care of yourself too!! I know how hard it can be trying to take care of your family and your parents at the same time. It's exhausting.

Please keep us posted.
