Uneven muscles driving me crazy! Advice needed

My left bicep, tricep and shoulder are weaker and less defined than my right side. So, a couple of months ago I started using dumbbells whenever an exercise called for a barbell, just so the left side would do equal work. I also added one extra set of an exercise for each muscle on the left side. Still, I've had no added results. I have tried to add more than one set on the left side for each muscle, but I'm usually already to failure from the regular exercises. Anyone have this problem and have successfully managed it? I was hoping that some of you ladies who have reached your goals and are well defined and strong could offer some advice. This is just making me mad. Thanks!
 
I'm inclined to tell you to give it more time. You said "a couple of months ago," but didn't mention how many times a week you engage in working the weaker left side. Have you had any injuries to that side that is affecting the strength training?
 
Nope, thankfully never had an injury. I do biceps, triceps and shoulders twice per week, so that added set is also done two times per week.
