Umbilical Hernia

I recently had twins and now I have an umbilical hernia. I am so depressed because I was just getting my body back into great shape. Does anyone know who can share with me about the surgery and recovery? I am worried I am finished with ab work for a long time. Thanks

My husband just had surgery for a hernia in his pelvic area. The surgery was quick (3 small cuts of which have healed very well) and he was pretty much back to work by the following week. There's a lady I know who also had an umbilical hernia but she's just now going to have the surgery nearly 20 years after she noticed it and it's the size of a head. Don't wait get the surgery asap. All they'll do is put a small film over it and voila! It's been a little over a month since my husband's surgery and he's working out, running stairs, lifting things and playing heavily with the boys but before the surgery he would always have discomfort within minutes of doing any of these activities. His was the size of a small lemon.

Thanks so much! Mine is very small, but I want to get it fixed before my babies get any heavier because I will not be able to lift them for awhile. Did your husband get laproscopy instead of open surgery? Thanks so much!!

I had this. It was day surgery. The only annoyance was peeling the medical tape of my hairy stomach (they did a minimal shave and a maximum tape job! OUCH!)

There was a list of do'd and don'ts, pretty much all commom sense... no heavy lifting.

My SIL had the surgery for the exact same reason, and she is so very glad that she did.

It was outpatient surgery, and she was back to normal in 48 hrs. She started working out about 2 weeks later and has had no issues.

She was just telling me how she couldn't believe that she hadn't done it sooner. (She waited two years after having the baby.)
