UGH..can't wait till August 24

This is only June 13....my guess is that you WILL be insane by then. Where's the closest zoo - you take him there, and offer to stay yourself. "Go home with Daddy, Mommy will be home in 3 months."

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." Mark Twain ;-)

May I assume you are not interested in homeschooling?:+

ETA: Let me send my 3 youngest DS to you for a few days, then you send them back, and things will seem much more relaxing at your house.}(

Maybe he needs some more structured activities to make the bridge between an 8-hour school day and a summer day with nothing to do? Can you set him up to do some art projects or take him to the library or the park?

When my kids complain of being bored, I hand them a list of extra chores. Even my 7 year old got the picture pretty quickly!

Good luck. My kids get out tomorrow and we are all really looking forward to the summer. :)

Joanna,

Kidding aside, you'll need to come up with some activities for him/her (can't remember which). OR those extra chores Marie mentioned.
1) he/she will hate your ideas and come up with his/her own entertainment or love your ideas
or 2) will get the picture "I gripe I get chores" and come up with his/her own entertainment.

Either way you're probably going to have to plan some activities suited to your child's interests...it'll be more fun than you think.

Good luck:)

About that Zoo idea, maybe you can take him to the Zoo and offer him to the childrens Zoo area?! LOL! I remember my brother starting crying when he was young because my mom said, "Lets go to the childrens zoo now." and he thought that it had children in cages and that he would be one of them! LOL!
Do you have a yard? because if you do, there is a slide made by Six flags that is blow up and has a pool at the end that you can get at Toys R Us for $30. That might keep him occupied on hot summer days. My son has that and he loves it!
Otherwise, do you have any of his friends numbers from school? Maybe you can call those moms and set up play dates?
Oh and sometimes there are activities going on at parks in the mornings. You might want to go to your cities website and check that out too.

Good Luck!

Kathy

Yesterday was the first day of summer here and the week or two before school was out I sat down and worked on a summer schedule so that I could fit in my work, workouts and most importantly, to make sure my kids had stuff to do for the summer. I don't have the days jam packed with activities but there are things planned for every day of the week. For instance, there are swim lessons, recreational swimming, plays at a local theater, trips to the library, shopping days where we will make the rounds of all the 7-Elevens, hikes, etc. I couldn't imagine my kids having months of free time with no direction at all!! I'd go insane too.

I must say that I WISH I had kids to drive me crazy this summer (wasn't able to have any). So send them all my way. :p But I have to share this...

We have a daycare here at our college and one of my co-workers has her daughter in there so I was outside visiting with them yesterday and this little girl who is about 6 says, "Umm...when you come to my house...do you have a little girl?" I said, "No. I don't." She said, "Well, you need to get one so that when you come to my house you can bring her over to play with me." So I said, "Well, I'll work on that." :+

How cute is that??? What a doll! Kids come up with the cutest things.

Hang in there all you moms. I know summer can seem like FOREVER when your kids are "bored".

Charlotte,

I'm LOL at you. I'm with you...my 3 youngest ages 8, 8 & 11 I can deal with, but if my 25 yo were here I'd be in your shoes.:7

Ha ha Joanna!! Let's get our 6 y/o's together.

I find we definitely need structure, but not "too" structured like when they are going to school. I do know what you mean about trying to get things done around the house. That part is hard. My household goals are always smaller during the summer. My ds6 just discovered Sudoku puzzles and he really enjoys those. They have dance contests on the DDR mat. They play school. My dd8 loves to be the teacher. :7 That usually gives me a couple of hours to do house stuff.

Don't you know we become cruise directors when schools out! LOL! :+ Have fun!

I for one hope that August 24 comes very slooooowly! I'm not eager to give up my 'make my own schedule' summer in order to start teaching again!

My daughters are out. Monday we picked 2 rooms and we took them apart sorted and cleaned. How about parks in your area. We have a few public parks pack a lunch and go we have a splash pad it is a public park with water spray pads. My kids like going and parking at the airport. Library. How about a different zoo that you have not seen before. How about a lake or ocean pack a lunch try a new one. How about a tent pitch it in your yard they can pretend they are camping. Make an obstacle course in your backyard, How about a fort in the house with a blanket and some chairs. Have your child gather a few things from outdoors and glue it together to make a collage, Do you have any planters how about painting them for a fresh cheap plant. I went to special persons day with my niece and the kids took an old shoe spray painted it and filled it with dirt and stuck a flower in it and hot glued a few decorations on the outside. Maybe someone is having a birthday Fathers Day is coming up get a t-shirt (stick wax paper in between so it doesn't stick) and have your child use fabric paint and decorate a new one or old. Old pair of shorts sew some buttons all over or paint or patches. You can check out some websites for different types of paints to make or craft activities. I love summer can you tell.
