Tyra Banks

I just love that Tyra Banks weighs more than me. Not by much and she has a good three inches over me in height. And half an alphabet over me in her chest. She is a beautiful woman.

LMAO! Robin, you are too funny! :7 :7 :7 :7 :7

I agree, she IS a beautiful woman.

Yeah, I read the article in People, and I agree that she still looks great. I was, however, a trifle dismayed that she has resigned herself to gaining 5 lbs. a year, which will pile up quickly. At that rate she'll be up to 200 lbs. in no time. She says what she eats on a regular basis (all junk food) when she's not trying to lose weight, and it's no wonder! Tyra, babe, you look great but you really don't have to gain more weight!

I agree! Everybody is high fiving her for not promoting the "too skinny" role model. Well, she needs to put the brakes on the weight gain now! I agree, she's beautiful, but she looked better about 10 lbs ago! JMHO!

I agree as well..she looks great! However, how can anyone cheer her on for gaining weight when it's due to eating junk food??? It's like saying "congratulations on putting artificial crap in your body!" To me, it ranks right up there with models that are too skinny---it's just not healthy!

She is gorgeous and a great role model BUT I would much prefer to see her promoting a healthy weight vs. "whatever weight happens to come along." I don't think it's smart to carry on about how much you love junk food and hate to exercise, KWIM?

Why can't anyone in the public eye just be NORMAL? And not on some extreme end of the spectrum? Actually, there may be a few. I am thinking of Kate Winslet - a beautiful woman with her head on absolutely straight.

ITA .. just as bad as the waifer thin runway models they decided to put plus size (REALLY plus size) models on the runway .. OK .. why not a regular size person .. your AVERAGE woman's body .. from size 6 o a size 12 ????

Kate Winslet ... yes .. she is beautiful and has to constantly fight the scrutiny of being fat/plum .. which I don't see at all.

Drew Berrymore is another that pops to mind .. she is a size 8 .. and gets so outdone by being called plump .. she is beautiful and has a wonderful body and a healthy outlook!

Hollywood has glamourized the lollypop heads .. and made the supposed "normal" a waif .. and they look horrible to me!

I think if everyone could just take a reality pill ... and like you said not go to the extreme end of each spectrum we would be so much better off!

and Tyra .. she does look good .. but she should be promoting health v/s "whatever" ...

Where was my Tyra when I was 15, 5'8",and 155lbs? I thougth I was fat....because all the public people ( celebs, and models) were alot smaller.

I have mixed feelings about Tyra right now. I happened to catch her on Larry King last night, and while I applaud her and her reluctance to let the media get to her about her weight, I also feel she is being a bit hypocritical.

Her "day-time personality", as she called it, she runs her talk show and pushes for full acceptance of everyone, no matter what their weight. She is full of "feel good" messages and that is fine and dandy....

then...

Her "night-time personality" (again, her label, not mine!), comes out and she is parading these stick skinny potential models around television. Most of the contestants on her show are projecting the image that is the opposite of what she is preaching about...fuller figured, curvy.

In fact, a caller last night on Larry King pointed out this very same contradiction saying that her 6 year old daughter feels fat when she watches America's Next Top Model. Tyra (always savvy) conveniently side stepped that issue and encouraged the caller to have her daughter watch her talk show instead where there is a more realistic image of women. WHAT!! Am I the only one who wanted to call up the show myself and say how hypocritical that is?!

On one hand you promote the very image that drives young girls into maddness while on the other hand you encourage a little extra weight. Seems like talking out of both sides of the mouth to me.

Ok...enough of my ranting. I feel better after getting that off my chest. I will humbly step off my soap box now!!!

We, as a society, focus SOOOOO much on outer beauty.

Anyway, I *think*, Tyra isn't being a hypocrite b/c she owns up to why she quit modeling. She said, she wanted to quit starving herself and she couldn't work so hard to be so thin any longer. She said this on one of her shows. I think modeling IS a whole different world...sadly, un unrealistic and not so healhty one. It's too bad that she's going the other extreme, but I'm sure that I would be tempted to sick up for myself by possibly going in the complete opposite direction and acting like it doesn't bother me or kind of look at me eating french fries in your face and I don't care. None, of us can know how this may have hurt Tyra. I'm betting people in the public eye put on good fronts and say the "right" thing in their responses to rude write ups all the time. A fitness instructor had to do it recently. People think they can say anything about people who are public figures and I guess they can. I'm not a Tyra fan or a fan of her shows (don't mind catching the talk show on a day off), but I like her spunky attitude.

Well, that's one way to hit more than one consumer market (like a store that sells lingerie and power tools!).

I also have mixed feelings.

I like the message that she's comfortable with her weight and thinks she looks beautiful, but if she really said that she's comfortable putting on 5 pounds a year ad infinitum, that is no more healthy a view than promoting the super-thin model look. (Tyra herself has never been one of those rail-thin models anyway, I don't think).
