Tweaking diets, workouts with NO SUCCESS?

I just thought I would share a bit of inspiration and deep thought...

I was listening to an audio success story on-line the other day and the girl's story really made me think.

Her key messge was that every diet she did in the past she would "tweak" to her desire. Ya' know, if it calls for tuna ya' say... ahhhhh I don't need tuna, I'll eat hamburger etc. Her point is that it wasn't all the programs that weren't working for her.... it was that she WAS NOT doing the program. She said that once she gave it her all and followed a program, and quit "tweaking" she had great success. She lost a ton of weight and totally transformed her body!

It really made me think of myself! I am so guilty of "tweaking" and then I wonder why I don't see success???!!??? hmmmmm... I have really thought long and hard about this the last few days... wouldn't it just be easier if we just stuck to our goals for a short period of time! I mean REALLY stuck by the plan we set out! Then maybe we would see better results in a shorter period.... and could make it to that next level.

I think sometimes we are our own worst enemies. I have been working out hours a day up until the last week when I started BFL. I now am seeing quicker results by working out less, focusing more on diet than the results of working out hours a day! I think the diet can be 80% of the problem and I was previously guilty of "tweaking" everything about it. Then I wound up working out hours and hours a day... which made me hungrier and hungrier... It is like a never ending circle! One "tweak" leads to another... leads to another.

Now I am doing BFL and it feels so good! I am motivated NOT to overtrain, not to overeat etc. I find myself more focused on the food and the intensity of the workout versus the duration. I'm also keeping a journal and love looking back to be reminded of all the things I did RIGHT over the week versus the 1 or 2 things you do wrong. It feels so good and is so motivating to keep going.

Do any of you think you can relate to this same sort of "tweaking"? Wonder why we have such a hard time with it??? I guess it is just human nature! Too bad I didn't live years ago when it was "sexy" to "tweak" and do whatever ya' want. I sure would have been good at it ;-)

Just a deep thought at 11:00 p.m. from LuvCardio.

Hi LUvCardio,Its LoriHart,I will chase you just about anywhere:p
I am absolutly a tweaker. But you know, there was one time when I was so strict.I had gained 15lbs after starting collage and meeting my husband. It was also the first diet that I had tried so thats another reason why I had so much motavation.I got smaller and smaller and smaller. Then I did start to tweak, and I have been tweaking every since.I didn't get super small or anything ridiculous, but I felt good.
I think the reason why we tweak is b/c we know we are not aloud to have it.And sometimes the things that we want are so small.Like eaaster eggs:9 They are just tiny little things, so come on now! One little easter egg ain't gonna sabatoge my efforts and the workout I did earlier today totally cancels that out, right? Proabably, until you have eaten the whole bag.Didn't stop at just one.And all of those little tiny easter eggs are proabably equivalet to 4 bars. Then I would never purchase a bar and eat it.But it looks different when something is wrapped up so tiny.
I have thought about how fast time goes by.It is crazy that my daughter is turning 7 on Saturday. Its crazy that I have been married 2 yrs already. Was that 7 weeks ago that I got my hair done? So, why can't I go a full day,a full week, with no "tweaking".I guess b/c at the moment everything seems so far away but really we wouldn't have to wait that long.We should probably take these thought over into the next week and then some.:7

This is probably that story behind all the sad tales about overweight folks who say they've tried EVErYTHING, and nothing worked. I find it difficult to know how Weight Watchers, or Richard Simmons Food Mover, or any other sensible plan like those could NOT work if you do them properly.

It's all about smart choices, portion control, and moving your bod!

This is such a great post. You are so right. If you are to have success with changing your body you have to be consistent in your workout and especially your eating. I noticed in Cathe's responses that she will give a routine, and she advises the person to eat very clean.

I think many (me included) fall victim to when they see someone has had great success, they want to know what they did, and they stop what they are currently doing to do that person's program. When someone else comes along and they jump on that program, not giving anything a chance to work.

I am sticking with my current program and will see how much I will progress in the next two months. I will then start another rotation and keep eating clean.

This is sooo true. 3 years ago, I heard about Weight Watchers 1-2-3 points and thought, hmm a program this is rather flexible, does ask me to eat foods I don't want eat (I eat fish, but no meat or chicken), how could this possibly work? I decided to try it strict to the letter for one month, and then if I lost nothing, I'd write it all off.. but to be fair, I had to follow it to the letter for that month. Well, of course I lost ##'s that month, and stayed on till I reached goal 9 months later. :) In the past 2 years, I stopped counting points and some of the weight crept back on... I'm back to counting my points (and of course exercising) and I KNOW it will be all off again.

On the other hand, I'm very guilty of switching my exercise plan around too frequently. I get bored with the same routine, and anytime some posts something interesting, I want to try it.

LuvCardio, I think you could have wrote that about me. Even though I have been doing BFL with you all these past 3 weeks, I have been tweaking here and there and I'm certain it has hampered my progress.
Thanks for the post. It brought me back to reality and made me focus on what I want to accomplish in the first place with this diet.

On a happy note, today has been a good day where my eating is concerned. :) :)
