Trying to Fit Yoga in For Wed Oct 3

Cathlete
Morning Ladies -

This morning I did Michelle Dozois' Best Body Circuit. Workout was 69" and I burned 375 calories. The DVD is actually 60"...but it took me longer with weight and band changes, etc. That's the one thing I always miss about Cathe's workouts.....she always gives you time to grab a different weight. I don't like when instructors use the same weight or band throughout....cuz how many people could get a great workout in without grabbing different amounts of weights?

I also did Yoga for The Young at Heart (Don't Laugh!!). I've had this DVD forever, but I couldn't bear to take it out and do it cuz my DH makes fun of all the old people on it (like me.....but with my severe mid-life crisis continuting......I can't look at it). I didn't really care for the instructor, set, or music, but I must admit the practice felt pretty good....but mostly because she eases her way slowly into the poses (you know ....for us old fogies!!) but I actually got into the pose a lot sooner than they did....so I was in poses for a long time....which is what I really need from time to time to really stretch out these stiff muscles. I added plough and shoulderstand to the end as well as lying twist and it made for a nice practice. Not strenuous...but there were a couple harder poses in here like Dolphin pose...so it was okay. I don't think I'll ever be able to do Cow Pose without modifying......hips are way too tight.

Speaking of Yoga.....during that Anusara practice the other day we massaged our feet and then sat in Hero's Pose and kneaded our feet with the backs of our fists. It felt soooo good. Have you ladies ever given yourself a foot massage? It's not normall something I do, but I really think it would be good to incorporate this at least once a week for circulation, etc. I wish I was one of those lucky ladies to have a DH that rubs their feet for them! Mine doesn't give massages of any kind.

Yve - I'm feeling a slight tinge of muscle soreness in my lower sides of my back.....which I think might be from the Pilates Ring workout...however, as expected, my legs are so fried from the standing climbs yesterday and this morning's weights to tell if they got any work. I guess it was better than I thought. I also noticed my abs fatigued quite easily during the ab segment on this morning's workout.

Kel - I love Kelly Coffey-Meyer also. Step Boxing is a great shorter intense cardio workout. It goes at a rapid pace. She's got a great on-screen presence. I really like her personality.

Jen - (laughing at myself -- I took notes from yesterday's post to to personals and next to your name, I had Pot written -- I'm thinking ....it's not about marijuana.....what is pot short for??? duh....I'm not getting any younger). Re: the mental toughness.....got this little tip from my Spinning DVDs. During a particularly difficult interval, you pick a point on the wall to stare at and repeat a mantra to yourself (you decide what to say) and repeat it over and over (out loud or to yourself) and it sort of really takes me into a mental zone where I can work harder and really focus. I used this technique on my own yesterday throughout the entire workout to help me stand longer during the standing climbs and work harder....and it amazingly worked very well. I will start doing this more often. Re: Jivimikthu yoga (spelling)..........sorry, but I haven't a clue what type of yoga it is. Maybe we can ask Yve. She seems to know that stuff. I'd research it, but I don't have time right now.....gotta go to foot doc in a bit. I've only seen it mentioned by various people at VF. RE: Pot -- LOL!! So ....when was the last time you smoked it?? Nah.....just kidding! Re: the Potpourri workout on Shape. I did do it once and liked it. I did it with another 1/2 hour segment and it added variety to the hour! I can't really remember it that much...but it was like 3 10 minute segments, and I know one was kickbox and I think another was an athletic drill type/plyo thing...but the last one escapes my mind.

Must get going....stuff to do before my foot appt.

Good morning everyone. This morning, I did Supersets & added some back rows. There really isn't much back work in that workout, is there? I also added some extra exercises at the end (when Cathe was beginning the stretch portion) & went as heavy as possible with all the exercises... so I feel like I got a really good workout.

Skippy has been waking me up at about 4 a.m. lately so I'm feeling really tired today. Don't know what's up with that but I do know that he's WAY too cute to get mad at - LOL!

Lora - Great workout again. I've been thinking about getting that one. I like Michelle Dozois & I think it looks like a good workout but I hate the thoughts of having the increase the length of the workout in order to switch weights & bands. Cathe does do a great job giving us time for all that, doesn't she? Thanks for the info about Kelly Coffey too. I know I like her style already so I'm sure I'd like her other workouts. So would you consider her original Step Boxing to be mostly cardio? If that's the case, it would be a good addition to my collection for sure. Since I don't care as much for cardio as I do weights, I can use all the enjoyable cardio I can get my hands on. The yoga practice where you massage your feet sounds nice & so does the one you did this morning. I've been thinking about getting one called Every Day Yoga for Everybody with Susan Winter Ward. Do you have that one? It sounds similar since it has baby boomers in it. You cat pants?!? How wild! Does she seem to be okay during these episodes? If so, I probably wouldn't worry about it.

Yve - How was yoga class last night? Are you feeling any better today? I have to take prescription meds for my seasonal allergies... or else I'll end up with sinusitis or bronchitis. I hate taking them but I can usually stop after the first freeze, usually sometime in late October or early November.

Jen - I don't have Muscle Max... yet. That's one I definitely plan to purchase when I place my next order with Collage. It sounds brutal, though, so I may regret it - LOL. Glad to hear Lenny's doing so well & hope you get a chance to chat more today.

Well, this morning DH said that when we go see Reverend Horton Heat (a heavy rockabilly/swing band) & Hank III in November, we may just take the whole weekend off & head to Winston to see Southern Culture too. That would be nice. We also need to take a Friday off soon & head to Nashville in order to schedule a convention for next spring at one of the hotel/convention centers so that would be nice too, although I could still see us working on Sunday that weekend. Hey, I'll take my R&R any way I can get it at this point. Speaking of... I think I may be able to fit in some yoga tonight since DH has a late afternoon meeting & probably won't be home on time. So I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Better get to work for now. Hope everyone has a great day!

Kel - don't let my workout this morning hinder you from getting that workout....cuz I tend to take time to sip water and wipe off and I'm slow with grabbing bands and making up my mind! Every non-Cathe takes me additional time. Re: Kelly's step box.....it has 1/2 hour of cardio and then some piddly weight work and a short ab segment. I hardly ever do the weighted parts cuz it's not enough to be that beneficial. Not sure why she did it this way....but the upside is that you could do the entire DVD and still lift weights the next day! Kelly stated her new kickbox won't be as fast paced.....cuz it's longer and she said that you wouldn't be able to keep that pace up for a whole hour....and I agree. I don't actually think I'm a slouch....but Step Kickbox is pretty intense for me, although I usually do really bouncy step and add a bit more impact. I've seen some here on the boards say they didn't think it was that intense and I'm like, what?? Yes, Brookie pants. It scares the heck out of me....cuz cats just don't pant. She doesn't even have to be running around that long before she does it. I don't know if she get's overheated or has a breathing problem or what. Her little tongue hangs out and she pants. I always go running over and say "ARe you okay?" and pet her and she shuts her mouth for a second and then starts panting again. It only lasts for several seconds ...no longer than a minute at a time!

gotta go to the foot doctor now.......for real!

No Jen or Christine yet??

Here's my report from the foot doc:

I had so many questions. He tried to leave the room 3 times and I kept saying 2 more questions, 1 more question, etc. I was a bit miffed! Plus, he shrugged his shoulders as if saying "I dunno" to a couple questions....WTF??? I'm out of the boot and I'm not totally healed yet. I'm still not allowed to jump or run or do any high impact in my shoes......but I will put the boot on and do a bit of jumping (as I have been). I'm only allowed to walk for no longer than 20 minutes at a time. I go back in 2.5 weeks. I'm not allowed any ballet leg workouts or flow yoga yet....but not because of my metatarsal. He's more concerned my Achilles might snap because I need to ease my foot back into it's normal position slowly cuz it's been at that odd angle in the boot for so long. And believe me.....I'm very aware how severe an Achilles' tear can be....so I'm not going to be doing those things just yet. I'll stick to Hatha yoga and regular leg work for a while longer.

Also-- I guess I know why my pain has been flaring and I've been so severely depressed .........started today and I'm a bit earlier than expected. That would explain the massive hunger over the last few days also.

Hi ladies! Tonight's WO was Turbo Jam Cardio Party #1 followed by Ab Jam, Floor segment only. Now that I have returned to working out consistently, I have got to get myself back into some kind of rotation pretty soon.

Kel-Yikes! 4 a.m. awakenings are no fun! Our pups want to get up around 4:30 but DH gets up with them. :) Your upcoming trip sounds fun! Glad your DH really heard you on the issue and is thinking creatively about it! I really enjoy Muscle Max and was kinda' bummed that I had to skip some of the workout. I especially enjoy the band work. Cathe's band work gets in there like no other! I have some other DVDs using the band but I don't feel the burn as much as with hers. I think the music is really good on that one, too-especially the song at the ending stretch. Have you decided on your DVD purchases yet? Sounds like you are getting restless...time to buy, buy, buy!!!!! :) :) :)

Lora-That's funny about the "pot"! I was trying to guess what you meant before I scrolled down to find out. Wow...another 2.5 weeks for your next appointment and still more bootie! That stinks that the doctor tried to rush out of the office without answering your questions. Was he late seeing you? If not, he should have given you ample time. I don't know much about Jivamukti either-I just know that it is a style of yoga that Sharon Gannon and David Life (I think that's their names) practice and that's what got Seane Corn into practicing yoga in the first place. They have a cafe and she worked there-and also took their yoga classes.

Have a great night ladies!

Hi ladies,

Hope everyone had a nice day.

Just a quickie for me today... will catch up tomorrow.

This morning's workout was Rhythmic Step - I just finished Power Yoga for Happiness.

Long day today... I am hosting Thanksgiving dinner this weekend - there will be 20 of us... My brother came by today and dropped off extra tables and chairs...I am looking forward to it... but am nervous that things will turn out ok.

So tired today. Off to bed I go... Have a good night!

Yve
