Trying to Fit Yoga in for Wed Nov 8

Cathlete
Morning Ladies -

No yoga again for me today. Probably won't be able to get any in until the weekend this week.

Here's what I did this morning: (new Amy Bento)

This morning I did Amy Bento's All Pump Extreme - Upper Body Premix (48") and then I added core work from the DVD. I worked out for a little over an hour. As I mentioned in last night's post, this uses tons of equipment. I used 2 different resistance tubes, dumbells, loaded barbell, step, body bar, and medicine ball. In the premix I did T-Bar rows with both hands and then one hand at a time, dumbbell pullovers, chest press, shoulder raises holding dumbells and resistance tubing, shoulder throw aways with the tubing, bicep curls with the body bar and resistance tubing together, and then in and out biceps curls with the tubing, followed by triceps kickbacks, and seated one armed triceps extensions (subbed lying cross face triceps extensions for these - not allowed to do over the head movements).

I then added in parts of the core segment. We used a 10 pound dumbbell and medicine ball (my med ball is only 8 pounds). We did standing twist and throws, these bent over ab things standing with a dumbbell and then went to the floor for planks, side planks, crab, followed by pikes on the floor with our gliding discs on our feet and then put the gliding discs on our hands and did roll outs. I never really feel like I'm working my abs when I do this kind of work.

I burned 300 calories in 1 hour and 10 minutes. This was a fun workout. The music was slightly better than on her last series. Amy looks great....very defined.

Have a great day everyone. I'll try to check in from work later.

Where the heck is August? Did I say something to make you mad August?

Charlotte - Did you try your yoga yesterday?

Hi Jen - I saw your posts from last night........you weren't posting for nothing!!

Gotta run. I'm running late for work.

Lora,

That sounds like a nice workout you had and a great calorie burn! Way to go!!! We posted the same time on other post. Oops.

I did try the yoga yesterday. I could just have that one on to listen to the calming voice only...so relaxing. I did try it out, but my wrist were getting stressed early on so I did not finish the movements with those as I had to work arms later and knew my wrist would need to be in good shape to curl heavy. I will try it again today. It is very relaxing though and I could not stretch my legs out as wide as the ladies on tv, but if I keep trying, I could in time. I think it comes on again around 8ish so I will do it then.

Hi lades! At work, of course, just saying "Hi" and Have a great one!
Yes, I did end up posting quite a bit last night. Don't know what made me so chatty. Maybe the Pilates loosened the hips AND the lips! Actually, I am very, very shy, so it's probably that I am just becoming more comfortable with everyone and enjoying myself. It also could be that the Pilates was a more relaxing than normal workout for me-could it be that Gym Style stresses my body and my personality at the same time?

Lora-I know what you mean about wondering how people take what you say-"did I say something to make you mad?" The threads are so fun, but they are hard in the fact that you don't have facial expression or tone of voice to tie with the words that come out. I almost feel like I should apologize in advance if I offend anyone..sometimes the words don't come out the way I meant them....never my intention. I don't think you have any worries though, but I guess only August can answer that.

Charlotte-Glad you enjoyed the yoga workout and are remaining open to it. If you remain positive, the flexibility will come, I promise! The benefits are really worth it and will carry over to the other parts of your life in meaningful ways! Since you gave it the okay, I think I'll try to catch an episode.

Good day, everyone-BBL
Jen

Glad you are going to try it again Charlotte. Yeah, that Namaste Yoga is really relaxing. I like them.

Great WO Lora! Hope you have a good day and can check in later.

I have no idea what I will be doing today. Last night I did KPC, ran a mile on TM, then did KPC and PH abs. Pretty good WO. I would have done some yoga, but I wanted to be showered and done by the time The Unit came on TV. Love that show! LOL!

Good morning to everyone!

I just finished the Namaste. The dog pose with leg straight up in air challenged me some. lol. I will keep practicing though.

Charlotte~~

Charlotte - yes, those can get tough...especially if you keep alternating legs and holding them.

Jen - I meant to answer that no, I don't do step every day....just lately cuz I've been checking out Cathe's new workouts. I do Kickboxing and sometimes Gliding or Hi/Lo....sometimes Urban Rebounder (although not lately) and when I really force myself, I go use the Ellipitcal. The treadmill (running) and bike seem to bother my sciatica lately....so I've been avoiding those. I suppose I could walk, but that doesn't get my HR up enough. I also really like Yoga Booty Ballet. I mainly do step cuz I like it and it gets my HR up. I just got a new Amy Bento Kickbox and Hi/Lo, so I'll be doing those over the next few days.

Hello!

I'm here! I'm here! Ack, I'm just back from work and it's 1:30am, but let me catch up with the posts. Sorry, I was away from my computer all day. Hate that!

Lora -

> Where the heck is August? Did I say something to make you mad August?

You silly! Oh yes, yes, I was verrrrry upset about your comment about Cyndi Lauper LMAO. No, no, the only thing I'm upset about is that I only have one yoga workout! LOL. Anyway, sorry to worry you, I have the kind of work schedule where I'm either always around or I'm out for a long spell...so if I suddenly don't post for a day or two, that's likely what it is.

Anyway, about Cyndi Lauper, hey, maybe this is some consolation - would you rather be working out to "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" or "She-Bop"?

On further thought, that's kind of a hard call, eh?

Oh hey, I ended up buying all the Kundalini DVDs and they are on their way to me now! Of course since I live overseas, that means I'll have them sometime in the year 2009 LOL.

Jen - Wow, you work out in the evenings? Well, I guess getting up early for work would make me want to work out in the evenings, too, come to think of it. I always work out in between breakfast and lunch, and when I don't do it that way, I just lose my spunk. I have no idea (thankfully) what "Build Me Up Buttercup" is. I'll have to look for it next time I do C&W.

As for evil songs that I hate...there's one in one of Cathe's that is also in Jari's and it's kind of this wild, Indian-like shouting, and it really bugs me. I think I may even have another workout instructor's DVD with that same song on it. I wish they wouldn't have to use that kind of stock music. But at least it's not "Manic Monday" LOL. Now that, I would have a problem with.

Non-step workouts? Ohhhhhhhhhh, don't even get me started on Christi's hi-lo. Super, major fun (and that's coming from a previous cardio hater!).

Have you tried something called willPower & Grace? I saw a review for it that summed it up well - that it's like yoga on steroids. It gives my legs such a beating. It's cardio and toning done barefoot and is really quite challenging.

Charlotte - Hey there, so did you see through your third eye? Oh, just read your next post. Good to hear it was relaxing.

Megadoo - Whassup? Why you feelin like crap?

Yve - I post from my work computer, but I mostly work at home, so the only one who would yell at me for doing stuff on the computer and not working would be...me. And I don't tend to yell at myself, especially at work. Haha.

So how's the Polar F6? I got a Polar F11, I think, a couple months ago. It's pretty fun.

On that note.......I'm off to Cardiohatesville and then to bed. I've got Kundalini coming in from the States, and a few various yoga ones coming from nearby. Excitement is in the air!

I'm already getting sore from my morning workout. I'm going to lunch in a few minutes. Sure wish I could do some Shiva Rea Fluid Power Yoga!! Yea, right!!

I can't even listen to Jari Love or her music when I do her DVDs. i have to listen to my own music. She drives me crazy with all of that "you can do it". "your taking this time for yourself" self help talk!! Sorry......I usually am not that picky but for some reason her demeanor irritates me.

I like Amy Bento even when she whoops!! I don't care. If she's whooping, it's usually a well deserved whoop.

I hate Mondays -- so I can stomach Manic Monday. She Bop is another story!! I prefer the BonJovi track on Cathe's Imax 3!!

August - I'm surprised you can do Christi's coreography. You must be coordinated. I can't follow her. She's over my head. I have the Fabulous Four DVD and I can do the first segment of Step Heaven and that's it.......I'm lost!!

I'm going to eat my salad and yogurt now.

You think YOU'RE surprised that I can do Christi's choreography, think how surprised I am! LOL. Before finding Christi, I thought I didn't like dancy workouts and I just absolutely hated cardio. I love my cardiohatin family over in Hatesville, but thanks to Christi, she totally turned me around for cardio, step and dance.

Oddly enough, I have more trouble with Cathe's step than I do Christi's. I guess I'm just more in tune with Christi's style of cueing. Nevertheless, I now love step, too, so I'll be making the Cathe rounds and getting used to her style dangit! :)

August - I still think Seasun's Straight Up Step is the most Fun step workout out there!! I can follow her cueing quite well. I actually even bought Rock Steady Step by her and The Next Step. I am currently working on learning Rock Steady Step....I tried the Next Step once and it was like WHOA.....not quite ready for that. How long will it take for your Kundalini DVDs to arrive in Japan? I really hope I'm able to fit more Kundalini in next week. I haven't been able to do it this week and I'm working this weekend also!!

It usually takes me a while to learn Cathe's step also. I'm not the best person with complex coreography; although I have really taken a strong liking to Seasun and get determined to learn it cuz it's so much fun after you learn it!! It's my happy workout.

Can you even do segment 2 of Step Heaven?? If so, you're a much better woman than me!!

Hi all! Tonight's workout was Minna Lessig's Optimizer Fat Eliminator followed by the two intensity blasts from Low Impact Step followed by Gym Style Legs. I am pretty sure I had an out of body experience in at least two places on GS Legs-once during the forward lunges and once during the slow lunges -bonus burn right before working calves. Come on, you know your legs are twitching, with just the mere mentioning of that part!

Wow! Didn't know Cyndi Lauper could provoke such a reaction! I have to say if I had to work out to one of her songs, I guess I would prefer Time after Time. About the only move you could do with that song short of taking a nap, would be to move side to side-cool down style. Love that!

Lora-Your Amy Bento workout sounds really cool. I like using lots of equipment-it seems to make the time go by a lot faster. Also, I am glad you mentioned Yoga Booty Ballet. Can you give a description of the workout-I have been curious about it for awhile, but I am suspicious of DVD programs that don't post clips of the workout in this day and age. I am also glad that you said what you said about the Jari Love DVD. I rented it from Netflix and previewed it, but detested the music and her teaching style. I have seen many raving reviews of her DVDs-maybe I should try to stomach it if the workout is that good. I know what you mean about doing moves you didn't think you would-I used to think clapping during a workout was too "pump it up" for me, but I honestly have to say Cathe has me loving it!

August-Bummer deal about work taking you away! I get to work early, but since I am a "Director" that usually equals 10 hour + days, so I don't always get to leave early, which is why I miss my workouts sometimes-I never know what projects the boss is going to throw out at the last minute. Not to mention that traffic in Atlanta is a sign of the apocolypse-I am only 9 miles from work, but it can easily take me 45 minutes to an hour to travel that distance! :( I think I have Willpower & Grace in my Netflix rental list. How is the music and the teaching style in that one? I can't believe "Build me up Buttercup" gets right past you in C & W. You must be having too much fun to notice it! I think it's at the part where you are skipping across the step and then do a jumping jack on the floor. Then you skip back across the step again and do something else that I can't remember because all the blood is in my legs right now and not my brain! x( Anyone else who knows the workout by heart, feel free to correct me or help me out, here!

Jen

Hi Ladies,

I did Step Blast today - with the challenge - but without the blasts. My knees are rather sore though. I think its the fact that I am doing it on carpet - with underpad. Maybe the floor is too thick? I really should get some puzzle mats instead.

Lora that workout is really something - and thanks for the Amy Bento review. You know...up until Friday - I thought that I had bought as many fitness DVDs as I would need for a while... Well in just a few days I am putting all kinds of yoga dvds on my wish list... now with reviews like the one you posted this morning - you are really guiding me to temptation..

Jen - you are one really funny lady. Loved your 'announcer voice' post last night - and thank you for going to that trouble just to answer my question. What is Minna Lessig's style like?

August - way to go on the Kundalini purchases! willPower and Grace sounds very enticing. I like my F6. It told me I burned 493 calories during Step Blast today. I am still learning how to use it. I didnt ever think that I could burn as much as that in 50 minutes - but I was happy to see it. If I am reading it correctly - I was in the zone for 30 minutes.

Charlotte - Glad you are enjoying yoga. Downward dog with leg up in air gives me anxiety - lol.

Meghan - that sounds like a fun workout.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.

Yve

Lora - I think my Kundalini will get here sometime at the end of this month or the start of next. x( As for the Christi you mentioned, I have that one, but I haven't tried it out yet! I actually have all of Christi's DVDs but have only done 7 or so. But all the ones I've done, I LOVE.

Okay, I know what song I hate in a workout because I heard it today during my S, J, P cooldown. It's also a cooldown on another Cathe, but I can't think of which one. It's that "Do You Have to Let it Linger" song by the Cranberries. I absolutely cannot for the life of me like that song.

Jen - The music in WillPower & Grace for me isn't worth mentioning either way - it didn't wow me and it didn't bug me. From what I can remember, it's fairly cool, dancy clubby, I want to say with a bit of street-feel...? I like the instructor, though she was forced to make a pitiful plug for Power Bar - something like, "This is pretty hard, I think I need a Power Bar." She says it like she doesn't really want to say it and it comes out at a fairly random time LOL. Anyway, she's kind of got this earthy street mama vibe to her ("Don'tcha worry, we gotcha covered.") I've only done the workout twice and felt major DOMS both times, but it does have some dread factor in it for me what with all the squatting and bouncing. But if it makes my butt a rock, I can't complain ;) . I'll definitely look out for the Buttercup song next time I do C&W!

Oh, hi Yve, don't you love to see how many calories you burned? Does yours also give you a weekly medal on the face after a week if you complete the amount of exercise you've told it you're going to do? I love to get my weekly medal. It's totally motivating!

Hi August,

Yes - it is very motivating. I only just bought my hrm and have used it twice... so I haven't earned a medal yet ;-) Actually - I am not sure if it does give a weekly medal - I will have to read more of the manual - and will let you know.

Oh man, I hope yours gives you a medal. I didn't know mine gave weekly medals either, but on Sunday night the watch suddenly beeped for no reason, and when I pushed one of the buttons, it gave me a medal! :p Now I can't live without having the medal on the watch face. :7
