Morning Ladies -

This morning I did Cathe's Step, Jump & Pump Step & Weights premix circuit (46")and did the ab/core work from SJP also - and then I added on each intensity blast segment from Lotte Berk Hip Hugger Abs, Muscle Eats Fat & High Round Assets (30"). SJP & Ab/Core took 65 minutes and I burned 360 calories and then after the Blasts, workout was 1 hour 35" and I burned 430. I also did Erich Schiffman's Yoga Backyard Beginners for 50 minutes.

Yve - Yes, I have 2 circles for Pilates but have been unable to find a good DVD. I don't really care for Moira from the Stott ones and the Winsor ones are sort of easy and I don't really like Mari....but where's the one called Classical Pilates sold? Also, I was wrong on the Cadillac and Supreme Pilates.....it's a Trap Table. What do you know about those versus a Reformer? Also, I tried lying on my foam roller to do 100's and leg stretches and I couldn't balance very well......is that part of the challenge? If so, I'll really need to practice. If not so, what specific moves do you do on the roller? One last thing.....how much do you think I'm missing from work on my Reformer since I don't have the box & pole? Do you think it's something I should think about buying in the future, or do you think I'll get good enough work on my Reformer alone. I've really got to start trying to fit more Pilates in. Just so much to do with cardio/weights/yoga......that it's hard to fit it all in.

Jen - I'm not sure if I'm going to keep Soul Sweat. I guess I'll try it again a few times to see if it grows on me. I can't believe people are raving about it like they are. I guess that's what makes us all different.

I'll be around today............have a great day.

Hi ladies,

This morning's workout was 30 minutes on the treadmill - and tonight I will be doing 60 min pilates.

Lora - I bought the Classical pilates technique dvds on amazon.com. There is one for just mat - one for the magic circle - and one for reformer. I highly recommend these dvds ( I have the first two) - bc they have 3 levels of difficulty - and they are highly instructional. They aren't the most fancy - in terms of background or music - the voice is pretty serious - but it is a true pilates dvd - as opposed to something that has been thrown together by someone who has jumped on the pilates bandwagon..kwim?
I honestly don't know the the pros and cons b/w the reformer vs cadillac/trap table wrt the type of exercises you would do on each. I have only been on a reformer a few times - and on a cadillac once. My classes are mainly mat classes. I will try to find out for you though. I have a friend who uses the reformer alot. She says that she toned up - very fast - with the help of the reformer.
As for the roller - Yes - finding your balance is part of the challenge - and is what intensifies the core work. I think you should start out by just lying on it - and getting a sense of balance on it...finding your breath as you lie on it. Then - as you lie on it - raise one knee over the chest - and stay like that for a while - then the other -then both - then you can practice with taking your hands off the floor - and trying to balance. Then - you can do core work with your knees over your chest - or leg circles - first with hands on the floor - then off. You are right - it takes some practice - but your balance comes quickly....and your back will feel wonderful after doing core work on the roller. Just lying on it after the workout and finding your breath, relaxing, really opens up the back.
WRT the reformer you have - do you have a link or picture of what it looks like?

Hi to all that follow - hope you are having a warmer day then we are here in T.O.... temps of minus 35 yesterday.....2 more weeks to spring though!!!

Have a great day everyone.

Yvanna - I just looked on QVC's site and it doesn't look like they carry the model I have any longer. I have one by Stamina Products ....Pilates Premiere XP. I just looked on Stamina's site for it also and they have a more current version that is really expensive. The one I got from QVC was only about $269. Now, I see they sell "power cords" to give your machine more resistance. I wonder how you would install them? This would give me a whole new desire to break it out. I got used to it before and didn't find it very challenging. Yes, I will practice lying on the roller. I do have the Classical Pilates Reformer DVDs....but never use them cuz you need the box & pole. I wonder if some of the exercises could be done without the box and pole.

Hi ladies! Got home late again...started WO at 7:15 p.m.!!!!! Tired, tired, tired of these 10-12 hour days! x( Leaves me no time to really chat like I like to...:) Tonight's WO was Pyramid Back, Muscle Max Back and TJ Cardio Party # 1. It's been a tough adjustment to put weights before cardio...but I am giving it a try since I have read that there are some good benefits to this sequence. I usually put cardio first because (1) I get it over with :) and (2) I feel warm enough that injury would be less of an issue with using heavy weights. It was tough to get through it tonight and I felt like I ran out of gas, but I think that's how it's supposed to be.

Have a great night everyone...going to check on the Hardcores but may not have enough time to post! x( I'll try to make up more time on the weekend!

Hi ladies,

Lora - The reformer that I tried had the tension adjustor built into the machine. If the 'power cords' seem to be straight forward - then it may be worth it for you. Does the QVC site have a customer service person that could help you with the installation question? Would you be able to adjust the tension of the cord - or is each power cord a pre-set tension?

Meg - good stuff on the treadmill run!

Jen - Wow - you have been burning the candle at both ends. Cudos to you for being able to keep up with the workouts. I know that if I am working long days - my only desire at the end of the night is to have a cuppatea amd go to bed.

Have a nice evening ladies,
Yve
