Trying to Fit Yoga In for Wed Aug 15

Cathlete
Morning Ladies -

This morning I did Cathe's Low Impact Step - Total Body Premix followed by Kick Max Blast ....but had to modify on the Rebounder with my boot or and believe me - my HR did not get near as high as it should have and I probably shouldn't be doing flying jacks on the rebounder with my foot. I'm sick of modifying and wish my foot would heal already. I miss doing step aerobics.....did the warmup of LIC on the step with my boot on and of course, it was awkward also. Workout was about 1 hour and 15 minutes and I burned 330 calories.

I also did Ravi & Ana's Yoga Quick Fix - Flexible and Free and Anti-arthritis segments.

Have a great day everyone. I have an interview at the Telemarketing place this morning and I'm going to the grocery store this afternoon.

Jen - How old is Lenny? Just curious. I never knew they did chemo for pets. When our cat was sick and we had to keep him separate, we kept him locked in a spare room. He didn't mind most of the time, as he was horribly ill and didn't want to be bothered anyway. Listen to this crazy way we think he got infected with the disease. We lived in another house at the time and did not have air conditioning and in the hot and humid summer, this wild cat used to come to the window and jump on the window screen and scream while hanging on by all four legs and claws and my cat used to be in the window looking out sometimes and we think that this wild/stray cat gave our cat some sort of crazy disease! That was a horrible experience. He was only around 2 or 3 when he died. We've gone through a lot with our pet family over the last 20 years that we've been together.

Kel - how are you?

Hi everybody! I'm interrupting your 'regularly scheduled program' to ask a question about yoga. I do a Yee Power yoga workout once a week. But I'd like to add more, shorter, workouts in wherever I can squeeze them in during the day. You know, in the evening to settle down, or in the middle of the day when I find myself with 20-30 mintues without the kids, etc. ANy reccomendations???

TIA

Gayle

Gayle - pop in anytime......or join! Off the top of my head (and I'll try to think of more - cuz the short ones are hard to come by) - I like Rainbeau Mars Pure Tranquility and Pure Sweat - with the latter being a bit more strenuous, but not overly so. I also like Yoga Shakti with Shiva Rea - Lunar segments for the evening, Xflowsion's Calm Down Dog, Yoga on Demand 30" minute segment, Hemelaya Behl's Evening Bath segment off of Yoga for Urban Living, Yoga to Go - BAck to Health by Nancy Wile (Amazon.com) and Yoga to Go with Nancy Sutton - Zuma Beach practice available at www.NShouseofyoga.com. I really also LOVE Rainbeau Mar's Yoga for Beauty - Dusk and Dawn DVDs, however they are each about 45 minutes but the Dusk one especially makes for a lovely evening practice.

That's all I can think of now.......as I've been doing Classical Stretch at night and I find it gets into different areas than my yoga and I've been loving the way they make me feel. You can read a long thread about them on Videofitness...just do a search and here's the url www.ClassicalStretch.com. They do sell a couple of the DVDs on AMazon also and the Intense Athletic STretch one is really good and I believe it has a STress Relief session on it also and they are both 30"......big thumbs up on these from me, although the instructor, Miranda, is a bit wacky and her cueing is not the best.....but I like goofy people and Miranda knows how to get those muscles stretched like nobody's business. She also uses many different techniques, like ballistics, tai chi type flowing stretches, static stretches and PNF. Some of her videos have butt/leg and ab work on them and she's also expert at positioning you to obtain maximum burn.

Hi ladies!

So sorry I didn't get a chance to check in yesterday. I tried to reply a couple of times but I was just too darn busy to fit it in. This morning, I did the ME Express workout premix & it felt great to do a good, intense, all-weight workout for a change! Tomorrow will be cardio & I plan to do some step. Friday would be my normal yoga/pilates-only day but I'm taking the day off so I think I'll fit in some cardio or a short circuit workout in addition to the yoga.

Lora - Oh my gosh, I'm shocked about your mom getting hit like that! For goodness sakes, a hit & run too. I'm just glad she's okay. How scary! Sounds like you've gotten several applications out there & all that testing behind you now so I hope you hear something soon. Is there any one prospect that appeals to you more than the others? What a sad story about your kitty. When our dear, furry, little girl passed away last year, I felt like I never wanted to go through that again but my DH insisted that we needed to get another one as soon as possible... & we did... & although I still miss her (there will always be a very special place in my heart & a hole in my soul because she simply cannot be replaced!), our little boy, Skippy, has truly helped to fill the void & heal us. So I guess my DH was right... but don't tell him that - LOL! Good workout again. I really need to get some of those Ravi & Ana DVDs, along with some of the others you've suggested to me in the past. Since I'm doing yoga every week now, I really need some more selection.

Jen - So glad you got to fit in a workout yesterday! I'm sure that helped you to feel a little better mentally, as well as physically. You know, the original Ripped is one that I own but still haven't done. It looks sort of monotonous to me but I guess I need to give it a try before I pre-judge it, shouldn't I? I own all of the Get Ripped series & I've done Ripped 1000 & RTTC but I've never tried the original or S&L. Whenever I switch up my routine again, I'll pull those out because I really enjoyed the ones I did. You asked what my longest break from exercise has been & I'm not really sure. I guess I've taken about 3 weeks off of weight training & yes, I could definitely tell a difference. But it also didn't really take that long to get back to where I left off (maybe a couple of weeks) & I think I could notice a positive difference in my body each time I've taken a break. It's almost like my body needed the break so it responded well to it. I'm still thinking about you & Lenny. I really hate that because like Lora said, he is part of your family... a furry child. I know how devastating it was to lose our little girl of 16 years & watch her health fail as she grew old. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to deal with this. My heart goes out to you & I hope you get some good news from the specialist. Please keep us updated.

Gayle - Good to "see" you over here! Lora is very knowledgable about yoga & I think she has many DVDs in her collection so I would second all of her suggstions but here are a few that she didn't mention (& ones that I really love too!). The first is a set of yoga routines called Sara Ivanhoe's 20 Minute Yoga Makeover. The five DVDs include Power Beauty Sweat, Total Body Tone with Weights, Flat Abs, Weight Loss, & Sculpted Buns & Thighs. I really enjoy her style & it's nice to fit in a yoga routine in only 20 minutes. Plus, you can do more than one if you have the time so they're very versatile. Another set that I really enjoy is Yoga Journal's Step By Step series. This set is intended to help you start & maintain your own home practice & I find that I do these DVDs frequently (of course, I don't have as many as Lora does so I don't have as many options - LOL!). There are 3 in this series, including Foundation Poses for Strength & Stamina, Bending & Twisting Poses for Flexibility (my fave!), & Balancing Poses for Focus & Energy (this one is tough!). One last DVD I would recommend is Yoga Journal's Yoga for Stress with Dr. Baxter Bell. This one has two 35 minute routines, along with a Breathing (Prayanama) practice, Deep Relaxation, & Guided Meditation. I'm finding that I reach for this one more & more often. I hope some of our input has been helpful & please let us know what you get. Also, please visit with us again!:)

So I mentioned Nascar on Monday & I'm really looking forward to the races next week. My DH & I go twice a year so it's sort of like a mini vacation for us. We'll be camping out at the track for 5 days. Lora, I didn't hear that about Ashley Judd's husband. Do you know if he's okay?

Oh my goodness, I've written a huge novel. Sorry! Hope you ladies have a great day & I'll try my best to pop back in later.

Kel - I don't know if Ashley Judd's husband is okay. I only caught a brief glimpse of the crash and heard it on the news when we were in Vegas...but they did not say how he was. Re: kittie's - we've always been a 3 cat household and whenever we lose one (as painful as it is - and we've lost a few) - we ALWAYS will get another one and it seems God always blesses us and sends us that "special" one to fill the hole in your heart and help ease the pain and no, I will NEVER forget about all of my long lost pets and they each hold a very special place in my heart and are all remembered and talked about often!! I would die if my cat died and I never got another one. I don't think I could do that if you paid me a billion dollars. .....no way........I just love my babies!! They are especially good to be around when you're life is not going so well (like now).

Gayle - I was going to add Sara Ivanhoe's 20 minute Makeover's to my list (as I have them also), but my list was long enough without them, so I omitted them......although they are good for when you want a short practice, however, they are not all relaxing and unwinding practices....I don't think (haven't done all of them yet....but I know one uses dumbbells).

The Telemarketing job was another dead end. They don't hire full time and I don't think they liked me anyway. The grocery store I applied at isn't hiring...........I'm batting 1000!!!! I'm so frustrated with this.

At least I'm still here for Mom. She is not able to see since her Cataract surgery, so I'll be needing to drive her places this week and probably part of next week.

I'm really frustrated and feeling defeated. Will I EVER get a job?

Hi ladies! No WO for me tonight. :( I got home late again! I know I just need to get serious about this and start working out in the morning. I have never been a morning exerciser, but it is not totally out of the realm of possibility. If I start with weights, I probably can transition to cardio in the a.m. too at some point. I am already a little klutzy at step and just don't want to injure myself! Anyway, I actually got sore from Ripped yesterday-I kept trying to use weight as heavy as with low rep workouts and burned out pretty quickly on some of the exercises!

Lora-It would be easy to tell you not to worry about the job thing, but I know how that can really weigh on your mind. You are doing the right thing, though-with each contact you make you are increasing your chances of finding something that is a good fit. It is a blessing at least that you are able to help your mom so much. It does almost seem like there are larger forces at work in your situation...she has needed you now more than ever. It may not just be a matter of the right job...it may be a matter of the right time, too.

Re: Lenny-He is only 6 years old. The vet said it is not as shocking as you think to find cancer in a young dog. He has seen them with cancer as young as 3 years old. :(

Re: Bare Minerals-A while ago you mentioned how much you like Warmth. Well, it stuck with me and I finally ordered their Mineral Veil product with a touch of Warmth in it. I love that stuff!!!!! :)

Kel-Wow, you haven't done Ripped yet? It's not really most folks' favorite workout of hers, but I like it. It's rare that I like every exercise in a workout, but I like each one in that one. The music is pretty bad, though-the worst of her series. It has at least grown on me though. The first workout I could barely stand it-now I don't notice it as much. I did not see the crash with Ashley Judd's husband, but my family was talking about it at their get-together over the weekend. They said that he came out of a huge crash with just a scratch on his nose! It is really amazing what those drivers do. I just heard on the radio that they are trying to get more women interested in Nascar and that it is one of the largest spectator sports in the US. Are you a big enough fan to have a favorite driver?

Gayle-Lora and Kel gave great recommendations! I would only add another vote for Yoga Shakti with Shiva Rea, especially the Lunar series. It is wonderful after a long day and before bedtime. The music is especially good & motivating with any Shiva Rea DVD. I also like Bryan Kest's older series-it's a three DVD set when he still had long hair-one was Tone, another is Sweat and another is Energize. Do you get the Oxygen channel? If so, there is a great show called Inhale with Steve Ross that also has great, top 40 and oldies type music. I liked yoga before that show, but he got me really HOOKED. I am not much of a yogini now; however, I have been more focused on weights and cardio. If you are open to Kundalini yoga, Ravi and Ana are really great and get stellar reviews on Amazon-it's very different though and probably should not be one of the first yoga DVDs you try. Feel free to join us or drop in any time....or as you say...interrupt our regularly scheduled programming :) :) that was funny!!!!

Have a great night everyone!

Jen
