Trying to Fit Yoga in For Tues Feb 20

Cathlete
Morning Yogini's -

This morning I did Cardio Coach #1 on the Treadmill followed by TurboJam Fat Blaster and a small portion of Ultimate Tae Bo aerobics (to try it out). Session was 75" and I burned 540 calories. I also did Yoga for Surfers III - Unleashed 70".

RE: Yoga for Surfers III - didn't really like this one as much as I like the other two volumes. It had a lot of arm balances I couldn't do and headstands, etc. I didn't really care for the flow of it either....although all of the volumes are different in the flow aspect. I'll have to try it again. Maybe it was just a bit too strenuous for what my body needed today.

Meg - was that 5 Tibetans segment tough, at all? I Know the 5 Tibetans on my one Kundalini DVD is a bit too strenuous for me to want to do as a before bedtime practice. Just curious about J. Kries.

Kel - how's your FIL? Are things calming down? Thanks for the kind words about the job search.

Jen - Do you have a lot of yoga DVDs to start doing with your DH? or are you gonna have to order some?? :)

Yve - What poundage do you usually use with that David Kirsch workout. I'm previewing it now (only did it once and now I know why - I didn't use to do planks and still have some trouble with pushups bothering my shoulder). He uses such dinky weights. Do you just do the Core Workout when you do it or do you add the upper and lower segments? I think I might try doing them all......not sure yet. It looks pretty tough and my body feels a bit beat up.

Lora- not to much. You start out spinning so as long as you don't get to dizzy LOL!! They weren't really difficult, you just move fast and that is what I need to work on.. I am to slow. The one part when you do a camel, you move so fast you really have to be careful not to get whiplash! When you do it, you will see what I mean.

Morning guys!
I was happy to see you back Kel.

I will bBL.

Hi Lora & all who follow!

Still no yoga here but I sure could use some. Like I said yesterday, I think I'll have to take a class if I'm going to fit any in my life right now.

My FIL is doing much better but still very drained & tired from his ordeal. I'm sure it will just take some time for him to adjut to everything he's been through. Thanks so much for asking, Lora.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about your job offers too. It sounds like you have at least 2 great possibilities. You also had me LOL at your response to the stress question. But you're right, how does anyone actually "cope" with stress? We get stressed out & deal with it. Then, some of us go home & do yoga. LOL!

Well, I better go for now. I hope to hear from everyone else today & I hope you will all find some time for yoga too!

I'll check back in later...

Kel

ETA - Hi Meg! We were posting at the same time...

Goodmorning ladies,

Today's workout was Step Blast - just the 3 combos - no blasts - and tonight after work I will do Eionn's Daily Bliss.

Lora - Am very happy to hear about your 'potential' good news about the job. Keeping my fingers crossed - that Friday everything will be official. Thanks for the information on the rebounder.
Yesterday was the first time I did the David Kirsch dvd. For the cardio portion I used 2 3lb weights. For the weights portion I used 8lb weights. I actually don't own very many hand weights - just the 3,5 and 8lbs, as well as 12 lb body bar. I honestly have to say that I really don't enjoy weight work...eek - This statement is probably blasphemous in this forum!! I love cardio - but weight work has a huge dread factor - though I am going to make a concerted effort to build up my strength and tone up using the countless weight dvds that I own...I try and make up for it with the pilates and yoga - but know the effect is quite different.
I am not sure that I really enjoyed the workout - my knees were getting sore during the jumping jacks - and my lower back was acting up during the mountain climbers. I think I mentioned that I fell out of doing cardio for a while and am trying to get back into it slowly.

I forgot to answer you wrt the restorative yoga. I don't actually have any restorative yoga dvds per se - My Monday night yoga class is a restorative class. She basically guides us through the practice at a very slow pace - she holds the stretches longer - and makes them deeper - we also often use the blocks to help with that.
We started off lying back on two blocks - one in the medium height position b/w the shoulder blades - and one a bit higher for our head. It helps release the back and shoulder - and feels really uncomfortable initially. We do deep romeo lunges while leaning on the block - child's pose sitting on the block - using a bolster for a spinal twist - So the poses are protected - if you will - to help open up tightness in the muscles. My studio has an early morning Kripalu class on Fridays which I'm really curious about - I have read that it is very helpful also - but don't know anyone who has done it - first hand. I am lucky - in that my group benefits cover $500 for gym/fitness type facilities - and so I use it for the yoga studio and buy monthly passes which allow me unlimited classes. But like anything else - I have to make a point of getting there to make the most of it.

Meg - The 5 Tibetans sounds like it is a nice workout - How do you like it?

Jen - your work sounds very interesting. Tks for the TJ info. I think its great that you and your DH will be doing yoga together. It helps when you have a common interest to do together... my SO loves golf... but personally - I just love walking the course, and smiling at the trees and taking in the scenery!

Kel - hello - and nice to 'meet' you too. I'm sorry that you have been going through some very stressful events in your life. Am glad that your FIL is healing and improving.

Have a nice day ladies.
Yve

Kel - glad your FIL is doing better. Glad you liked my stress comment....I'm sure I gave him more that we're funny.

Meg - Those 5 Tibetans sound like the segment I've done on my Kundalini DVD......fast.

Yve - I didn't know you don't like cardio. I like weights and cardio. Not quite sure if I want to do that workout tomorrow or not. I was thinking of doing it and adding on segments from his One on One Butts/Legs and Upper body. I better decide here soon.

Hi Everyone,

Did Shiva Rea: Creative Core Abs. It's really great. A different way to do your core. I love it.

There are 3 different exercises on the DVD, ea. one gets progressively more intense. I only did the first one today.

Sounds like everyone is doing very well. Talk to you later today to see how things are going.

Janie

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

Hi ladies! I just got home from work, so I'll get right to personals since I have not worked out yet....

Lora-No more DVD ordering for me! I will use what I have when DH decides to work out. The problem is, I was not expecting him to pick yoga-so I lent some of them out! Guess I better get them back now! How was Tae Bo Ultimate Aerobics? Thanks for your encouraging comments about my WOs-you certainly have helped keep my motivation up with your WOs and workout suggestions. I think I'm ready to move on to YBB, too-in a month or two. No Hip Hop Abs yet again today, but I keep checking the tracking....so it should be any day now.

Meg-How are you doing? Still dealing with stuff/ultra busy? How is Ripped to the Core different from Ripped if you have them both? I think I really got attached to Ripped when I rented it from Netflix...I had a very difficult time sending it back. They don't have all the Jari's available there, but I think they have Ripped 1000. Which Jari is your favorite/or the best in your opinion?

Kel-Your new doggie is a cutie!!! How did you go about adopting him? How did he get his name? Has he been introduced to MIL's chihuahua yet? Glad to hear you will be able to check-in more.

Janie-So, it's another "yes" vote for Creative Core Abs! It sounds like a must-have! I am glad you enjoyed it. Did you enjoy the music too?

Yve-I think our "golf" game would be the same...I like taking in the scenery better, too! LOL! Oh no about the weights, girl! (Of course, it's not a sin here, silly!) I wish I enjoyed cardio more...maybe as I get better at it and in better shape I will.

I can't believe it..............but that place I interviewed at yesterday (the "not so thrilling job" with the long hours and overtime) just called and asked me to come in for a 2nd interview with the Doctor tomorrow. He said he wouldn't be calling for 2nd interviews until the end of the week........and this is freakin' Tuesday and I was just there yesterday! I can't believe it........they liked me?? What, did I do good on my test? I did turn around and ask the secretary, what do you want me to type next (it was a 10 minute timed test and I even skipped some words I was unsure of cuz the doctor talked real fast). Or maybe he just liked my Yoga comment!! :)

Jen - I'm glad we're helping to motivate you. Like I said before, I'm very proud of you hanging in there and trying new things too!! I'll be here for you when you "go off" about YBB after you get them. I can just see you flipping out at the moves now........but if you give them a chance, you might like them!! I laugh at myself when doing my favorites which are from the Live's....Hip Hop Abs and Cardio Burlesque (he...he..). My DH often walks up behind me when doing them and joins in on the fun. He loves acting goofy.
Janie - I'm not so sure Creative Core Abs would be a good investment for me, as I hear part of the actual practice is from Fluid Power's Core portion (which I have).

Speaking of DVDS........I ordered Power Yoga with Tracey the other day. Anyone ever heard of it? I'm eyeing a back, hip and shoulder opening practice also. Yikes!!

Hi Lora,

I actually do like cardio quite a bit... its the dang weights that have a huge dread factor.

I do like Kirsch's teaching style though.
