Trying to Fit Yoga In for Thurs Jan 25

Morning Part Time Yogi's and Flexible Peeps??

This morning I did Cardio Coach 6 with Sean on the Bike & Treadmill. I did my w/u and recovery periods on the treadmill and challenges on the bike. I wanted to use the Ellipitcal, but when I got on it for the first challenge, it would not work. Great!! That's the only machine that doesn't bother my sciatica. So I ended up on the 2 machines that flare my problem. Since I had everything set up down there, I didn't want to come back upstairs since my DH was up there. Now I can't use my cardio machines for another month until he finishes P90X. Cardio was 68 minutes and I burned 437 calories. I don't know if I got my HR high enough. I have to check my zones next time beforehand, so I make sure I reach my max percentage. I'm not sure if I got high enough today.

I also did Bryan Kest's Origninal Power Yoga - Intensive Body Sculpting. Wow, this was a toughie. He spends an entirely long time on one side of the body before switching sides! Not sure I need the body sculpting effect today since I just did a good weight workout yesterday, but I really liked the pose selection in this one the best...so I wanted to do it. I added pigeon, resting pigeon, plough, shoulderstand and a few twists before I quit. I'm beginning to get addicted to plough pose and shoulder stand. They make my upper back feel good.

Regarding Bryan --- I'll continue to gush about him, as I'm really beginning to like him a lot! I think I might have to make the time to start doing those 90 minute CD's I got....as he seems to have a better variety of poses and more finishing poses than his shorter DVDs which are mostly standing work. I like both standing and lying with my yoga and y'all know I like my twists, hip openers and forward bends. He does talk a lot...but I like it. I think it helps take your mind off of the pain you're working thru (and breathing thru as he emphasizes). I like that he goes on and on about not judging yourself and thinking negatively about yourself if you can't do something! I guess I really need to hear that right now since I feel like such a failure from that job situation. I was just thinking in the shower that I'm so mad cuz I started all those master files at that job for all the crap they had me do (which they told me was supposed to be in the computer and it wasn't!!!!)....and now the new person will have it so easy!! Sucks.

Also, re: that job......Just what is schmoozing and treating someone with "kid gloves".....cuz that's the only other thing they told me I did wrong besides stating that the Law Environment didn't agree with me (or something to that nature). They said they had a problem with Client Contact (the phone calls I took). I'm very professional and I simply was professional and concise on the phone. I don't know these people ....what the heck was I supposed to do, ask them how the wife and kids were? WTF???? Okay, sorry....it's just bothering me.

Jen - No, my post yesterday the first time was a bit more detailed...but general idea. Have you actually done the Sa..ta..na..ma with playing your fingers? It's the playing of the fingers that I liked a lot. It was different. Didn't you buy Yoga Beauty Body? If so, you should try it later....think you'll enjoy it. That's cool that you lift w/ your DH. Mine doesn't like me in the same room as him, ever!! Even when we're relaxing! He's funny like that. He makes me sit a seat away from him at the theater also cuz he likes arm room! We've been married 20 years this May. Can you believe that?? My DH really does have a good heart though.....which leads me to the "dog story" (I'll try to make it short -- cuz I gotta get ready to go-- but you know me!)

Jen (cont) - Basically this dog appeared on our back patio the other day. We thought he'd been hit by a car cuz when we opened the back door, he only lifted his head and didn't get up. We went out there with food and he was starving (we gave him shredded wheats and cat food...don't ask). Anyway, that got him up on all fours and we realized he was freezing cuz he was shivering and he looked as if he'd given up! We were besides ourselves. My DH went door to door trying to find out who the dog belonged to. We live on a VERY busy intersection and my DH followed the dog's tracks in the snow all the way down the one busy road (FAR). Oh and we wrapped the dog in blankets, flannel shirts and a coat before he went door to door. When he came back and nobody knew who the dog belonged to ....we took his old rabie's tag off from 2004 and couldn't read the number cuz it was too wore out. We could read the vet's name (which was our vet)....so we got the dog in our car (he was such a good boy) and took him to the vet with the tag to see if they could read it. She read it right away (don't know how) and tried calling a couple numbers and finally got a hold of the guy at work and asked if Duke was missing and he said yes, how did you know and she told him Duke was there waiting for him and we had brought him in. She then told him how important it was to keep the tags updated! The guy was SO appreciative and offered us money 3 times....of course we didn't want anything. We were just SO HAPPY that the dog was reunited with his owner. My DH had tears in his eyes because the guy said the dog never gets away and he just had back surgery and his wife was devestated! They lived really far away from us too.....and the dog had to cross at least 5 REALLY busy roads! So....that's the scoop.

Have great workouts ladies - I have to go to the hospital for my typing test again and then to the grocery store and back to the dentist...cuz I forgot to pick something up there yesterday and it's freezing here. Only a high of 20 today and snow! I hate this weather.

ETA: Jen - I bet you type faster than you think. I didn't think I was typing that fast when I was tested ...so you probably still got it going on girl. Although, this one transcriptionist I used to work with typed 100 WPM and all I heard out of her mouth the entire time I worked with her was that she had a "God given" talent.........plhease!! Let's knock ourself over patting ourself on the back!! LOL

Geez-- sorry for the length of this post.....I bet you ladies wish I couldn't type!!!

Hi limber ladies!

Sorry I haven't checked in for a couple of days but I've just been very busy & haven't had the time.

Well, I was able to fit in some yoga Tuesday evening. I did Crunch fat burning yoga & although it's not my favorite, I still enjoyed it. This morning, I did the 41 1/2 minute Cardio Fusion premix & had a ball, in more ways than one. Ha! I'm currently addicted to that workout & can't keep myself from doing it every single week. Does anyone see a problem with that or do you think that's okay? I'm always dripping with sweat when I get finished so I feel like I've gotten a good, short workout!

Lora - Great workout (as always)! I'm still thinking about getting some Bryan Kest but I've heard his yoga is very fast-paced. I've also heard that about Eionn Finn but you seem to really like him too. I prefer yoga that's slower paced & longer in the poses so do you think I'd still like them? I'm still so sorry about your job - yes, it sucks! But I'll be thinking about you as you search & wishing you the best. Please continue to keep us updated. Oh yeah, wonderful story about that doggie. Thank you so much for being the person you are & helping him back home!

Meg - How is the ankle? I hope it's feeling better today!

Jen - I hope that vets visit went well. It's so cool that you & your DH work out together! I just wish I could get mine to work out, period!

Hope everyone has a great Friday Eve!

Hi to anyone else who pops in today too.

Take care,

Kel

I just got home from taking my typing test at the hospital and doing the grocery shopping. It's wicked cold and nasty snowing out there. I only typed 71 WPM on my test. I almost wasn't able to take it again cuz the software wouldn't work again, but she called another campus and they let me do it the "old fashioned way". I was allowed 2 more tries....but the most you need to type for any job in the hospital is 70...so I guess it's cool ....even though I can type faster when I'm not nervous.

Kel - The only thing Eion and Bryan go thru a bit quickly is the pace of the sun salutations. (I usually lag a bit behind from time to time and sometimes I even miss an up or downdog....but it's no big deal - you're not supposed to judge yourself). Eion does it in PY4H and Bryan did it in today's workout, but once you make it thru those, I think they hold poses plenty long. Also, I haven't tried it yet (haven't had time), but I got Bryan's Audio "Slow & Deep" and the pose selection looks really good (from the booklet). I bet you'd really enjoy that one. I'll keep you updated....but it's 90 min long -- so not sure when I'll get to it.
Also, have you ever tried a Yin Yoga DVD? Yin Yoga holds poses extremely long. Not sure if you'd be into that, but that's another option. You could do a search for Yin yoga.

Thanks for the information, Lora. His style definitely sounds like something I'd like but I was just worried about the speed. I guess he does the sun salutations so fast in order to warm the body up more quickly. I'm also interested in Eionn because he sounds really cool (I've even seen him described as "groovy"). I've never tried Yin Yoga either but I looked it up & it looks good too. I enjoy Baron Baptiste & all that crazy, mystical stuff he says. Are they anything like him? I hope to fit more yoga in before the week is through so wish me luck.

Well, since you did 71 on your test & they only need 70, maybe that will be good enough. Seems like it should anyway. I know what you mean about being nervous & not doing too well. I wish they didn't have to require tests like that but I guess it's the only way to confirm typing skills. If they could just take a look at your posts, they would see how well you type! LOL!

It's turned very cold here too, only in the low 30s out there right now, & it's starting to spit snow too. I know we've had a mild winter so far but I'm ready for spring!

Wonder where everyone is? Hope they pop in this afternoon...

Kel

Kel - the job I put in for only requires that you type 45 WPM.....but I was just saying that the most you'd need to type for ANY job is 70. So, I'm cool for anything.

RE: Bryan - no - he's the least mystical. He is very warm and likeable though.....espeically in his newer stuff. I'm really getting into him even though he talks a lot. I like his message. He says things like mentioned above. He even joked at one point that every looked so serious and told them to smile. He explains a lot about the muscle your getting at and why it's so good for you. He also stresses about how good power yoga is for you and that too many people out there are beating their bodies with other exercise (which I don't necessarily agree with Yoga only fitness....but he's just being passionate about it). That's the other thing I love about him is his passion. I love people who live life with passion! I'm a very passionate person as well. Even though Bryan is not mystical, he is very sincere. His music is nothing spectacular, but I don't really think Eion's is either. He just has some soft fading in and out tones that seem like a cross between a chime and instrumental....I can't figure it out. He talks so much that you don't miss it and believe me, you need him to talk you thru some of his poses!! Especially in that one I did today. He's also very cool...but not quite what I'd call hippie like.

RE: Eion has that "young hippie vibe" going on like Rainbeau Mars. I tend to like hippie vibes (as I was a hippie back in my youger days -- now I'm giving my age away). Eion is a surfer from Vancouver, so his vids are usually on the beach...which I like. He says really bizzare, off the wall stuff like ....now this next one is extra slow and sensual ...like a Sade love song. Feel the honey in your hip. It should feel like your getting ice cream licked off of you and this pose is high on the goodometer rating or something to that effect. He also explains the benefits of some poses, but not as much as Bryan. Eion doesn't talk as much as Bryan......at least I don't think. His little doggie is always running around on the beach with the group and one time they show him on his little doggie yoga mat sitting up on his hind legs....like he's trying to do a yoga pose. It's a trip. I can't really think of any other phrases Eion uses.....but he's really cool and not too hard on the eyes....although he's not "bad boyish" enough for my taste (I like Josh Todd ....Buckcherry's tattooed lead singer for goodness sake!!). I would love to meet Eion though. I think it would be so cool to be able to do a live class with him. Hope this info helps. Feel free to ask me any more quesions you might have. (oh and I wouldn't consider Eion very mystical either. I think Shiva Rea is mystical and Rainbeau is a mix of mystical meets hippie/new age.

Forgot to mention, I got some really cool yoga DVDs the other day ......ordered them right around the time I lost my job. They are Yoga Synthesis and they look really good. The Fire one looks really hard! I'll have to modify quite a bit....but it's advanced. I got the rec from a VFer! good rec!! They are not very well known and the instructor is Indian.....filmed in the outdoors and on a beach (he lives in New Jersey.....so it's not a spectacular beach...but still!).

Thanks again, Lora. I'm definitely interested in both of them. But I also have about 5 other fitness DVDs on my wishlist too so I'm not sure if I'll get them right away or not. I also looked up Yoga Synthesis & it looks really good too. I meant to ask, do you have Hemalaya's Yoga for Urban Living? I really like the full hour long workout. It moves very slow, which is actually a little annoying at times, & doesn't offer any real sun salutations but some of the poses she does are very good & she holds them for a long time & shows how to progress to more advanced positions too. By the way, I meant no offense about the typing, I just didn't know how it worked. I wish you luck in your job search & I hope you will get one that suits you better than the last one & I hope you find one that you truly enjoy.

Well, I think I'm outta here for today. My DH just called & said he was stopping somewhere before coming home so I might just try to fit in some yoga tonight! Oh, I meant to tell you, my favorite routine to do right now is all 3 Yoga Journal DVDs consecutively. But I do them in a different order. I do practice #1, then #3, & end it with #2. The reason is that #1 is mostly sun salutations & standing poses (with a few floor poses near the end), #3 is for strength & stamina so it offers the crow, side plank, handstand, headstand, plough, & shoulderstand, and #2 is all bends & twists so I feel like it cools me down & relaxes me after all that hard work. If you don't have these, you might like them. Each one is only 20 minutes long but they offer a lot of good advice on form & technique. One more thing, did you get your YJ Stress Relief DVD yet? If so, have you tried it? I really like it too.

Have a great evening & I'll be back tomorrow!

Kel

Kel - No- I never tried Hemelaya. I've read a bit about her at VF, but they don't seem too thrilled about her. If you like slow moving yoga, I think you'd really like Rainbeau Mars. She's not super slow - well...all except for her first beginners one.....it's pretty slow. Her Dusk/Dawn Yoga for Beauty series is excellent and they have just the right amount of relaxation/effort for an easier, rest-type day of yoga. I love doing Dusk when I'm in a bad mood or stressed. I do it a lot. The music is wonderful. I've never tried Yoga Journal's either. Don't really have money right now. :( Nope - didn't get the Stress one yet....Amazon is slow. I was checking out Wai Laina's yoga site the other day. She wears some wild clothes, but here DVDs sound good. Who are your favorite instructors so far?

OK, I gotta type fast. DH is on his way home and determined to workout tonight, so I'll be long but have to be quick about it.

Lora-You're a typing maniac today!! :) We didn't wear you out before your test, did we? Wow!! Guess not @ 71 WPM!!! That's smokin'!! Those newer BK WOs sound really good-especially that his personality is warmer in those-I liked his style already, so I think I will put them on my "list". I really like his encouragement-it's always right on time. I like plough and shoulder stand, too. Those two and wheel are probably my favorites b/c they just seem to do something in the body that makes you feel "changed" when you come out of them. You are NOT a failure at that job-it just wasn't a good match and it's their loss. Firing people is also hard on those that have to do it (trust me) and they probably just had to come up with something to say. I would not analyze it too much or put much stock in it. Yes, that "playing with fingers" one I do after I get gone with the other one. I'm thinking about sticking with those two for 40 days like she suggests...we'll see. AMAZING DOG STORY!!! Loved that!! :) How nice of you & your DH! :) OMG-I actually went to school for Transcription and there was a girl in class who could type 100+ WPM. She thought she was God's gift just like that person you described!! Yes, fast typing....it's the new equivalent to walking on water-didn't cha' know? ;) LOL!!! About Hemalayaa-seems like most of the Amazon and Netflix reviews weren't stellar either, along with the VF reviews you mentioned, so I hadn't looked into her either. From what I've seen of Wai Lani, unless she's got new stuff out, seems like she would be too easy/basic for you.

Kel-I agree on the Crunch yoga-not my favorite but still enjoyable. I still haven't done Cardio Fusion or Butts and Guts! What's wrong w/ me?!? Aren't those the two most raved about of the new series?!?! Seems like you should be fine doing CF every week. Are you just doing cardio and yoga right now? Are you following a rotation?

Gotta go get ready for S&H Biceps and Triceps....Hi to Megadoo and Tammy if you check-in later. I'll try to be back before I go to bed.

Jen

Hi Jen, Lora and Kel!

I did GS BSB this morning and 3 sets of 5 assisted chin-ups. My body really needs a good yoga session. I'm trying for both Saturday and Sunday.

Good workouts all around!
