Trying To Fit Yoga In for Sun Jan 28 aka Yoga Ghost Thread

Hi Part Time Yogi's -

How is everyone today?

This morning I did 25 minutes of Turbo Jam Fat Blaster followed by Amy Bento's Hi/Lo Extreme for a total of 70 minutes. I then did 10 Minute Solutions Pilates Abs followed by Raji Thron's Yoga Synthesis Ashtanga Short Form - 70 min. At the end of the cardio, I burned 464 calories.

Yoga Synthesis - Ashtanga Short Form was pretty advanced. I had to modify some things. I don't know how some of thes yogi's float all over the place and jump this way and that way. They are so light on their feet. I'll never be able to move like Raji was in this video. It was a good practice, but lacked hip openers. Unbelieveable, my hips have been staying pretty open with just all of the twisting triangles, twisting side angles, forward bends, etc.

Have great workouts everyone. I'm off to eat breakfast and soak in my Lush tub and then look in the paper for a job. We're going to another movie today...Blood & Chocolate ...Werewolf movie...looks good. Smokin' Aces was Smokin if I do say so myself. Not everyone's type of movie. Lots of action....sort of Pulp Fictionish in nature...but not really. I have to go see who the director was...as I'm curious.

My legs are pretty toasty today....almost couldn't get thru the intervals in Amy's Hi/Lo....I felt fatigue doing the Plyos and my asthma's flaring a bit ...almost had an asthma attack. It's cuz my sinuses have been so bad. It's cold and snowy here again today...has been. I need rotation ideas. I'm sick of what I've been doing.

Jen - I have that workout you did the other day too. Haven't done it in light years. So, do you like the older ones when you do them? Are they challenging enough after doing Cathe?

I'll be back later. I'm going to plan on getting some Kundalini in tonight. I shouldn't be as busy as I was yesterday.

Good Morning!

I am actually going to get in a full yoga session today...YAY:7! I'm planning on doing Brian Kest's Energize or Eion Finn's Magically Hips.

Lora: Good luck with the job hunt. My son went to see Smokin' Aces last nite, but I haven't seen him yet to see how he liked it. It is so great that you and your hubby go see so many movies.

Jen: Hey there!

Hi Ladies! Not sure what I will be doing exercise-wise today. Just got back from the store and feel very tired. I feel an afternoon nap coming on! Funny thing happened while shopping. I asked DH if he wanted white bread, since I was only going to get whole wheat and he said no he would eat the whole wheat this week because he really wanted some Pepsi this week. That is funny because he is now learning about food trade-offs and not having everything you want all the time. He gets one treat item a week-so if he brings home white bread-no Pepsi allowed!!! ;)

Tammy-Hey girl! YAY FOR YOGA today! :) :) Did you know that Silk makes soy yogurt? I just got some to try today. I know I am totally soy-obsessed. I'll let you know how it is if you're interested-do you like yogurt? Have you been to Starbucks lately? Of course, I get 2 giftcards and then don't go!

Lora-Excellent job on the toasty legs! Does everyone at VF talk about rotations the way they do on Cathe's boards? Just wondering if someone over there would have some novel ideas for you, since you've probably done all of Cathe's and FitnessFreak's. About the older WOs-I like to pick them up every now and then for a change. Of course, it NEVER feels like I'm working as hard as I do w/ Cathe! Even though it's way less intense, it's still different and there's a least one or two different moves from Cathe thrown in that I think can be of some "shake it up" benefit. I'm trying hard right now to grasp the concept that different is all you really need sometimes. I also am struggling right now to find ways to sneak in some pseudo-cardio on DH, but it has to be extremely simple choreography. The squats and lunges and very slight plyo from the Reebok Legs WO fit the bill. It also helped that they had a guy working out in those, as well. ;) He's forward enough (i.e. a good sport) to workout with the chicks, but it helps to have a guy thrown in there! :) If you've got any good ideas for straightforward choreography that is not step-I'd love to hear about them! You're so right about the ghost thread again. I came so close to posting on Hardcore's last night just because I felt so lonely! I have seen some yoga topics on the open discussion board, so maybe there is hope yet!

Jen

Jen - I've been searching the Videofitness forum looking for ideas. I think I need to search some other places. No good ideas yet. I have those Budokon workouts you talked about yesterday. I did them once and put them in the basement....didn't really qualify as "cardio" for me. I might need to try them again if you like them. I'll be interested to see what you think of them.

I ended up doing Eion Finn's Magically hips premix. It felt SO good, but I have lost a lot of the yoga strenghts I had made when I was doing it more regularly.

Jen: I've tried the Silk Soy Yogurt and I didn't really like it, BUT I did eat it. I had a vanilla soy latte last nite, as a matter of fact...YUM:9. How nice that your hubby is willing to do food trade offs. Mine is in denial and he is 50+ pounds heavier than when we married:(

RE: Trying To Fit Yoga In for Sun Jan 28 aka Yoga Ghost...

Hi all! Tonight's WO was The Next Challenge w/ Radu & Cindy Crawford. I love that one, but DH hurt his back doing it. Not where you would think-he made it through the plyo but when he was bending over during the weights section to touch his toes w/the weights-yikes-he was going all the way to the toes and probably should have just stopped at the knees since this is new for him. I feel really bad :( . I know it's all something we've been through and he'll recover. Just hoping he doesn't get discouraged.

Lora-I'll let you know about the Budokon-HOPEFULLY it will be here on Monday. I am also expecting the Turbo Jam's this week. Have you been watching the Cathe and Chalene thread on Open Discussion? Pretty riveting stuff!

Tammy-OH MY GOD-so I tried the Silk yogurt-YUCKY!!!! I was able to salvage it by turning it into a berry smoothie, but blech!!!! I will be turning the other two into smoothie's as well and probably won't purchase again. Bummer! :(

Gotta go-fish in the oven-might be back later.

Jen: I hear ya on the Silk yogurt....blech:(...but turning it into smoothies is a great idea!

Tammy-So you choose Eion! I was wondering whose WO you would end up doing. Just curious, what made you reach for that one over Bryan? Sorry about the flexibility gains not staying with you. I am sure when I get out of this absentee-yogini phase, I'll be sore going back to it. It's so interesting to me though-that it feels good to make strides in each type of WO including yoga. It's funny that we worry about losing our cardio and strength gaines but we as yoginis worry about losing our flexibility gains, too. They are all hard to get back, in their own way.

Jen: Cardio, Strength, Flexibility.... You are so right about how they are all hard to get back. I chose Eion's Magically Hips because I did the Cardio Coach Press Play workout on the treadmill yesterday and a 30 minute treadmill run today and my hip flexors were/are SCREAMING!

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't posted this weekend. I was hiding a bit, and then I was super busy this weekend. I did not WO yesterday, or today. Boohoo. But, my ankle is alright, just twinges when I move it a certain way, and my knees were bothering me, so I rested.
I am ready to step it up though, just hope my body agrees.

Jen- I hope your DH's back is alright! That stinks! You guys have been doing really good sticking to it. You seem to have a good variety of WO's too.

Tammy- YAY! You did yoga! I bet it felt soooooo good, especially after that run. I have wanted to do my CC this weekend, but was to nervous with my ankle. It wasn't a 100%, and running isn't easy on the legs, so.......

Lora- how was the movie? Did the yoga help those tired toasty legs?
