Morning Fellow Yogi's -
I ended up doing a recovery day workout today. I did Yoga Booty Ballet - Light and Easy and repeated the cardio portion of it twice......totaled about 45 minutes and I only burned about 220 calories at the end of YBB. I then did Dancin' The Chakra's - Shake Your Chakras 30" Premix. I also did Yoga on Demand with Erin Pillman 54 minute Hatha yoga practice. I paused the DVD right before she went into the plough/shoulderstand sequence and did pigeon, pigeon with twist variation, resting pigeon, and dying warrior twist and then continued on (as I don't feel she does enough hip opening poses before going into plough, etc.).
Last night I did the segment off of my Yoga for Stress Relief with Barbara Benagh DVD for Hip Pain (SI Joint)....aka Sciatica. I would have never thought this practice was any good just from when I previewed it. She does an awful lot of lying there and breathing with her legs in different positions, but amazingly, this worked pretty well. She even has you lie there with your legs in Badakanasana and just breathe and tells you to let go of all the tension stored in your abdomen (which can cause back strain) and I never knew I held so much tension in my abdomen.......it was crazy I tell you! I felt better last night, however, the pain is back today. She does say in the DVD that you have to do it 3 times a week.....so I guess I'll have to do it again! I love the beach and the fact that you can actually hear the waves in this DVD. It's very relaxing and soothing. Someone just actually posted a thread over at VF the other day about restorative yoga being good for controlling Cortisol...the stress hormone your body releases which causes women to store fat around the midsection...........and I know people were suggesting this DVD for restorative yoga.
We're doing the usual today .....movie - The Messengers and then I have to list my stuff on Ebay. Next week, we'll probably have to start going to the discount theatre if we want to keep going....unless I get a job.
Jen - I'm not sure if the Duncan Wong DVD you had actually had the kicking segment on it. It's only on the Source Power DVD, not the Awakening Level DVD, and unless you are pretty good at knowing how to modify, I probably wouldn't suggest Source Power to you. I pretty much know how to modify some of the poses he does that I can't get into.....just don't have that kind of flexiblilty. He's amazing flexible and strong....hops straight up from a pose into a handstand and such. I was thinking about Budokon some more....and I suppose you could make it into a more balanced practice by adding some of your own finishing poses onto the end or even do a seated portion of a DVD....but I like practices to be complete. I wish he'd consider making a more advanced one with finishing poses. Does he have a website? Maybe I should email him my thoughts, as I"m sure others want a more advanced version also.
I'll be back later. Off to soak in the tub. It's too freakin' cold here for me today......only 6 degrees (windchill well below zero) right now and I can feel the cold air pouring in our house as I sit here typing.
