Trying to Fit Yoga in for Mon Feb 19

Morning Yogini's -

This morning I did Greg Sim's Lean Muscle workout (46" high rep/slight functional fitness type of workout). I also did Step & Strength Gliding with Rob Glick 25". Lean Muscle was pretty tough today....I think I'm finally remembering to pick up heavier weight and drop down if I need to with these high rep workouts. Workout was about 1 hour 25 minutes and I burned 550 calories. I also did Cape Cod Yoga - restorative practice.

This was the first time doing this Gliding & Step workout....Gliding segs were way too slow. I still think I need to go visit the CIA producer and make a Hardcore Wildly Fast....Gliding workout! I love doing fast speed skaters! Nobody seems to do fast gliding workouts. I swear I'm ready to break out my old Slide board and do some of my taped Fit TV Gliding segments back from the days we used to have Fit TV.

This yoga practice is done on the beach and was pretty good....slow and easy.

I'll be around for a bit and then I'm going for a job interview.

Have great workouts everyone.

Someone posted that they got Mindy's All Systems Go new workout and said it looks REALLY tough. They said you need the bodybar to do it....I only have a 12 pounder....hope that's heavy enough. I can't wait to get mine now.

I just got this system yesterday cuz I emailed the instructor and he was so nice......that he suckered me in to be the guinea pig. He also told me that if I do the exercises faster than tthey do in the DVD, he guarantees I'll get a good workout (told him I'm advanced and looking for tough). He said if I didn't....he'd refund my money personally. Can't beat that!

Jen - I'm so sorry you got hit in the car. That's nothing to mess around with. I've had several whiplash injuries. If you start having more pain or stiffnes, I'd get it checked out. I'm so proud of you for sticking with your workouts and that long workout you did yesterday. Keep uup the good work! Glad you're enjoying TJ.....since you got used to them, I think you're ready to try YBB....and liberate yourself even more. Don't be afraid to let loose and act goofy....as we all need that sometimes (I do it all the time). It sounds like you and your DH have a good marriage/relationship. How long have you been married.

Yve - I have the foam roller workout that Karen Voight put out before Collage pulled it off their site. Guess they had it and they weren't supposed to cuz it's only supposed to be distributed by Gunthy-Renker when the Infomercial comes out. Do you just lie on it for all the core work in Pilates? Does it make it a lot more intense? If so, I should try that. What restorative yoga practices can you suggest. I have Rainbeau Mars, Pure Tranquility, Cape Cod Yoga, B. Benagh - Yoga for STress Relief, Yoga in the Garden of Serenity and the Kripaulu one from Amazon.

Meg - are you around today?? What's the word.

Meg & Jen - I've got BPAL coming out of my ears. I was thinking I'll post a list of imps I have and give you guys a chance to see what you'd like out of them......since nobody ever buys them off the Forum and I sell them very cheap on Ebay........and I have bottles of everything I want and have tried everything else........game??

sorry for the book again!

Goodmorning ladies,

Today's workout will be the Ultimate NY Body Plan DVD. I am quite sore today from yesterday's pilates.

Lora - You are a machine on the glider! A Hardcore Wildly Fast Gliding workout would be killer! The Cape Cod yoga also sounds amazing. I am picturing the Shiva Rea effect of doing the practice by the water. Yes - the foam roller does make it intense. This is what we do for core with the foam roller: Lie down on the roll and do regular situps (8X). Then the situp when we pause half-way up and continue. Then we do situps while raising one knee towards the chest - then the other knee. Then we lift both knees towards the chest and do situps like that - where the elbows are meeting the knees. We also did some other exercises - where by we would stretch one arm behind our head(the other arm either on the floor - or shoulder height off the floor) with legs stretched out. Then bring arm forwards as you knee towards chest - and hand almost touching foot - almost like a saw effect. We also do leg circles while lying on the roller. First with one leg at a time - then both legs together. Also - while lying on the mat and holding the roller in both hands behind our head - we do situps like that and we sit all the way up (like a half-rollup), 8x.

For bum/hips - we do bridging on the foam roller - so feet on foam roller - and we bridge up 8x. Then we lift one foot of the roller and bridge up 8 x. (then other foot). Then we lift one knee to the chest and other foot on the roller and bridge up 8 x. (then other foot). Then with both feet on roller - we bridge up and move the roller with our toes back and forth 8x.

Lastly - we do pushups with the roller.

Will be back later this evening after work.
Have a nice day everyone.

Hi all! I am off today w/ DH, but he has it as holiday and I don't! Had to use a vacation day x(. Can't stand the thought of him being at home w/o me! :) Here goes my book......

Lora-Are they showing any clips of Tae Bo Amped on the site or anywhere else? Tried everything but didn't see anything. Do you think they'll eventually sell them at Collage video? You must be super-coordinated to use the rebounder & amped bar-I would just knock myself out for sure! WOW! 20 years is a long time! Is it 20 yrs this year? Are you going to do anything special? It's only our 7th year. How long did you date before you got married? We dated 4 years so we've really been together for 11 years total. You have an excellent point about your DH & crosstraining. Not sure why they seem to be so stubborn in this area. My DH decided yesterday that he wants to do yoga 3 times per week and that's it. That's good because now I can get in the cardio I need right now to continue to lose weight. Right now, I am the Director, HR & Finance for a Sleep Disorders Center. I started as the transcriptionist and moved up within the company. It'll be 9 years with them in August. I can see things changing down the road... the docs are getting older and talking retirement. I know what you mean about other duties w/ transcription. That used to be my pet peeve! I did medical records (including runs to off-site storage!) and answered the phone. HATE answering the phone!!! At least they never put me on the front desk! My beachbody gloves are 1 lb. I don't think my shoulders could take 1.5 lbs either! Doesn't sound like much but it's tough with all the repition in those TJ WOs. It's funny that you mentioned the music licensing. I agree it's worrysome. It did my favorite yoga show in!

Yve-Thanks for your concern! I certainly hope there isn't anything lasting to this either! My back is a little sore/stiff today but feels pretty good otherwise, as well as the rest of me, so I think it'll be okay. Turbo Jam's are not at all like Cathe. They are definately geared toward a younger audience and at some point remind me of being in a video game. That being said, I really enjoy the music-which I guess is sorta' a danced up hip hop vibe. It's most close to Tae Bo, but slightly more doable and better music.

Hi to all that follow! I will BBL!

Jen

Yve - I'll have to copy and paste that later....supposed to be getting ready for my interview. I actually just "threw" my makeup on (cuz I'm wearing my glasses - and it actually doesn't look half bad -- kudo's to Bare Escentuals). Anyway thanks for the roller info. I remember when I did the KV DVD, my body was shaking and it was firing my abs like crazy but the segment she did was hardly "tough" for me. Maybe I'll have to repeat it a few times!! I've really got to start getting back into Pilates and Lotte Berk. I keep saying I'm gonna take a recovery like week and do all of that stuff, but then I just keep pushing on. I have that NYC DAvid Kirsch workout.........I must do that this week now!!! LOL.

By the way -- forgot to respond on the Rebounder. Actually....no it's not hard at all to learn. When you first learn, you learn to press down and bounce down into the rebounder with force while keeping your spine long and that's how you jack your heart rate up. The harder you press into the bounce, the more intense the workout. Rebounders are amazing for cardio. They really get my HR up there! I'm able to get my HR higher on the rebounder than the floor....due to the lack of impact. I love modifying Cathe's workouts on it....I jump on for those tuck jumps and flying jacks (but that's when you have to be careful, cuz your not bouncing down any longer and just "flying"....I once flew off into the stereo and you have to watch you don't hit your head on the ceiling....believe it or not).

When I had my stress fracture last year (got it from my foot twisting ever so slightly in my shoe as I was stabilizing my leg and doing a side kick - can't believe that one still), I never missed a day of aerobics, as I used my rebounder!! My foot felt broken, but I had it xrayed initially and they said "negative for fracture", but the pain continued for 3 months and I hobbled around limping until I developed a severe callus that turned into a 2nd degree burn.......so I visited a Podiatrist and was told I had a "healing stress fracture". When I told him my history of working out.....he said I was lucky I didn't displace it and require surgery.....but then he said it saved from having to wear a boot and requiring PT to get the foot active again!!.

gotta go get ready ............later

Jen,

The cookie recipe is posted on hardcores!!! That is good news about your dh doing yoga 3x's a week. I am trying to get my dh to ride his bike with me when the weather improves. Says he will.

Hello to everyone else.

Charlotte~~

Char-Yea!!! So since it's healthy are you using it as a workout recovery cookie or do you just indulge at your fancy? Thanks for posting it, I'll go check it out! That's good news about your DH-hope he follows through. I like my time alone, but I think it helps the relationship to have shared experiences, too-like some of the amazing things you probably see while you are riding. You probably just typically come home and tell him about it-but if he was there it would be something cool you experienced together.

Ok, enough Dr. Jen for one day! :)

Jen

Jen - actually it wasn't so bad using the amped bar on the rebounder. It took a bit of concentration, but the basic bounce comes natural for the feet. I've almost taken the lamp out a few times while doing Amped on the floor though!! Well, if you guy's made it thru 7 years, it's smoother (notice the er) sailing from here on out. The first years are the hardest and then there's getting past the 7 year itch!! LOL. Let's see.......met in 1987 and married in 1988. Met in June of 87 and married in May of 88. But then, met in June of 87 and moved in together (with Mom's permission) in September.......so it was pretty much a "you just know" situation...although we were both considerably wild back then since we're both recovering (met at an N/A meeting....isn't that a hoot!!) We still joke about that one! I hate when people ask me where we met, as I don't make it a habit of telling everyone!! but since everyone here knows from my open honesty........LOL. I wish my DH would do YOga. I've shown him a couple DVDs that are really good and told him he could use them any time he'd like......but he doesn't. Oh...you work in a Sleep Disorder place.......I used to type sleep studies when I did transcription for that Pulmonology practice. Good for you moving up in ranks!!

Hi Toasty - You should pop in more often over here. What are ya gonna do now that P90X yoga is over? You should have DH buy Power Yoga for Happiness for you from Amazon.com. It's a great practice with premixes.

Well, went for the job interview - had to do an actual letter via transcription. Won't go into detail....as I'm not real excited about the job and they asked me some very detailed, off the wall questions....so who knows what they thought of me....LOL!! Also, when I got home, I called the gentleman that interviewed me for the hospital job (as they were supposed to let me know by Friday). He's not allowed to offer the job to me cuz it has to go thru the HR dept and he can't get a hold of the lady. I asked him if I could at least be "excited" and he said "yes". So, I think I basically got the job at the hospital and it's just a matter of them contacting me with the pay rate....etc. We shall see!!

Namaste..............be back later.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to pop in for a minute & apologize for not being around for so long. I've had a lot of crazy things going on in my life for awhile & just didn't have much time... & definitely no time for yoga at all. On Sunday, February 4, my FIL had a heart attack & not only had to be shocked but then he spent almost 2 weeks in the hospital, getting stents & a pacemaker with a defrib. While he was in the hospital, my DH & I had a couple of houseguests... my MIL & her 7-month old Chihuahua. Oh my! Then, I came down with some kind of sinus thing last Tuesday & couldn't work out the rest of the week. Thank goodness that's over now. Last Friday, my DH & I adopted a new doggie named Skippy (he's my new avatar) & I spent the following 3 days with him, exclusively. He's already housetrained & was supposed to be crate trained but we're having a small problem with his crate. I'm going to post that in open forum in hopes of getting a lot of good advice. So anyway, that's it in a nutshell. I hope everyone has been doing well & doing their yoga. I'm not sure when I'll fit any in again, unless I go to a class, but I know I need to so maybe I can find time to go to an evening class soon. I'll try to check back in more now that things have calmed down for me again.

Lora - Great WO, as always! Sounds like good news about that hospital job too so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Yvanna - I haven't "met" you but I'd like to say HI & hopefully, I'll be around a lot more now that things have calmed down in my life.

Jen - Enjoy the day off with your DH! Great news about him wanting to do yoga too... I can't even get mine to walk on the TM. LOL!

I'll try to check back again later but if not, I'll be back tomorrow.

Take care everyone!

Kel

Kel - so sorry to hear about what's been going on. I'll pray for you! Hang in there!

I just got an interview with Coca Cola at the local office/plant for an Administrative Asst. job.......on the 27th........if anything, I'll be good at interviews! :)

Hey Lora! Just wanted to pop back in for a second & say thanks! Also, that sounds like a really great job at a very good company. As always, wishing you lots of luck & hoping you will find the job you want & one that will bring you the most happiness.

Take care!

Kel

Oh -- My fellow yogi's might find this amusing.

When I was interviewing with those "off the wall" questions this AM....the Adminstrator said.....this job can get quite stressful....how do you handle stress? I replied "lots of yoga" to which he replied "are you serious" and I said yes, and deep breathing. I told the DH that and he cracked up......as he said he probably wanted to know how you handled it at work...............and I said......how the heck does anyone handle it at work.....they get stressed out....breathe and move through it until the day ends and go back the next day for a 2nd round!!! LOL.

Anyway, Lord only knows what this guy thought of me cuz I probably gave him some "out of the ordinary" answers for other questions also.

Oh well!

Kel - yes, I'm excited about the Coca Cola interview cuz I agree it's a good company and it pays well. They asked me a ton of questions before they set it up. I applied for it online. However, I'm confused....as I don't know what I'm going to do now if they offer me the hospital job!

Jen - where are you........house cleaning and dog bathing?

Hi again, all! I was washing the dogs! (Good guess, Lora :) ) Turned out to be a good day for it...nice and sunny. Still a little chilly but not too bad. Off to work out-probably more TJ and some short toning. Thought Hip Hop Abs would be here today....but alas (puts palm to forehead and swoons for dramatic effect), no package...but it will be here soon!

Kel-Good to see you're back! :) That's a lotta' changes you have been through in just a few days!

Will be back to chat with everyone post-workout!

Jen

Hi ladies! Tonight's WO was TJ cardio party # 1 with 1/4 lb weighted gloves followed by Supersets UB premix. I have not done any of the premixes on most of my Cathe's yet, so this was a "new" WO for me. I definately think I will be feeling it tomorrow! I am surprised at the intensity (not sure why, it IS Cathe after all) with just the short duration. I was pooped after all this, but I have the feeling it was an effective combination. I think DH decided on Wed, Sat and Sun for yoga, so I will have more yoga to report...I probably won't just do that on those days-maybe try to do a short TJ before or good toning/strength after it. Haven't done much pilates lately...may have to pull some out since it goes so well with yoga. (And Yve has done such a good job of selling it with those awesome pilates WO she's been doing!)
