Troy lite?

What exactly is the difference between a Troy lite Barbell and a regular barbell? Everyone seems to love it. I have a barbell set from Sports Authority and I just wondered what the deal was with troy lite? Does it lift the wait for you or what? LOL just kidding;)

Of course!

I've used both systems. And I must say, the Troy Lite barbell and weights are very, very nice and if I could afford to, I would replace my clunky metal set with a Troy set. Everything is smooth and there's no clanking and the clips slide on nicely.

Maybe one day....:)

The bar itself weighs almost nothing, so you do not really have to figure in the weight of the bar along with your plate weights. I have another metal bar that feels like it weighs 10 lbs itself, so I always have to add that into the calculation. I LOVE my troy lite bar bell and the awesome coated plates that come with it. I HATE my metal bar especially since it doesn't have the clips, you have to screw on a fastner that holds the plates in place. Not condusive for the pyramid series where you are constantly changing plates.

Liann - I have the screw fastener barbell as well, and I just ended up going and getting a set of clips that fit on the ends. I have to squeeze them a bit harder, but they work:)

I just got a set of spring clips also for my screw fastener barbell and they are so much better than the screws, saves a lot of time when changing weights.

my clips are so hard to put on. I feel like I am getting a w/out on my hands! Maybe someday I will get the Troy Lite, but right now i'll stick with what I've got.

Runnergirl,

It's perfect for women who are doing Cathe's workouts at home because the bar is only 4-ft. long and weighs only 5 lbs. Therefore, you can go as light as you want, but it can also go up to 55 lbs., which is more than enough for working out at home without a spotter. As others have mentioned, the plates are all rubber-coated, and won't scratch or harm your floors, or make any noise. You can buy plates anywhere from 1.25 lbs. to 10 lbs. All in all, it's just a high-quality set, and it doesn't cost very much more than other sets, so it's a good value too.

If it weren't for the shipping cost, I think it would be a better value than the walmart 55-lb. set, which is not quite as good quality. But many people here can buy the walmart set at the store, and save the shipping, so there's a significant price difference. Most people have to buy the Troy Lite system online.

ETA: I just read that the 5-lb. bar can hold as much as 80 lbs. Wow! Maybe they've upgraded it since I bought it. I noticed that the price went up a bit too.

Nance, you're right, the Troy Lite set holds up to 80#'s. I think I only paid around $20 for shipping which I didn't think was bad at all. The set doesn't come with 10# plates so I ordered those separately. It's a nice set and I'm thinking about ordering another one so I don't have to stop and change plates so often.

To answer the OP's question, I like the Troy Lite set because it's the perfect size for home use. I'm short on space and a regular BB is a tad too long.

I have the Troy Light and it's nice. The only thing I don't like is that the black rubs off, so I look like I've been working in a coal mine by the time I'm finished with my workout.
