Troy Lite Workout System

I went to the fitness1st website and think that I've found the TL Barbell BUT...I'm not sure what the difference is with this and what is available at say, Target or Walmart. Can someone enlighten me? Also, the set that I looked at was $50...is that the right one?

TIA

Sounds right; the set is $49.95 and comes with the 5-lb. bar plus 35 lbs. of plates, although the bar can hold up to 80 lbs. It is clearly marked in the online catalog as the Troy lite system, so be sure you see the name.

The Walmart one, at $19.95 is a great deal if you can't afford the Troy lite system, but it is more limited in that it comes with only 10-lb. plates and 5 lb. plates. It doesn't have 2.5 lb plates and I don't see them available separately. If you always lift heavy, and don't need the extra increments, this may be fine for you. The weight of the bar itself is not clear to me. Perhaps the Troy lite plates can be used on the Walmart bar? Someone who has the Walmart set would have to answer these questions for you.

Hope this helps a bit.

Okay my mind was made up and you've changed it again Stargazer, LOL! I may have to find a Walmart (not easy in my neck of the woods), to check that out.

>The Walmart near me carries the 2.5 # plates separately -
>cheap too. Just wanted you to know.

But are they rubber coated, like the Troy plates? After having to deal with rust on metal plates as well as my dumbbells, I avoid any plates that are not rubber coated (I recycled my old metal plates at a nearby scrap metal place).

Troy also has some 1.25# plates available (I ordered some of these, as well as a couple of 10# plates when I ordered my system).

(Just trying to get people to change their minds again ;-) )

Get the Troy barbell if you can afford it. The rubber-coated plates are worth the extra expense.

NO! they are not rubber plates (the walmart variety) They are those metal ones that make the cool clanking sound and get the not-so-cool rust on them!! Also, let me say that 1.25 plates are great when you are trying to get just a little heavier (I have one set - metal - and have been unable to find any more)

:) :) :) :) :)

Okay, that pretty much does it. I look at the troy set everyday on the Internet anyway...might as well just go for it. The people in the mailroom are just going to LOVE me! NOT!
