Transportation in Dallas, TX - Need info!!

I'm attending a conference in Dallas later this Fall, and hope to get out and about during my down time trying out restaurants, etc.

What's public transportation like in the city? Is it pedestrian friendly (I'm staying in the downtown area, BTW)? Is it a difficult place to drive in, in case I decide to rent a car for a day or two?

Any information will be appreciated. :)

If you are wanting to get out if it were me, I would rent the car. Dallas is a great place, but like most things in TX very large. Not difficult to drive in at all and lots of great, cool stuff to see.

Does that help any?

Just wanted to second everything Jana said. Dallas (and all Texas cities in general) are not pedestrian friendly. I would definitely rent a car.

Another option is to check with your hotel and see if they have a courtsey van that goes to restaurants. The West End is probably OK for walking about, but most areas in Dallas are spread out.
