Training with rubberized tubing.

Hello all!

I posted this question before and you guys were wonderful and led me to a thread entitled "thinner legs" where I found info about how to order tubing. I wonder now if I will be happy with an order I just placed with the DYNABAND company. They offer a med. resistance band and book of exercises for about $20. My question is this: Debbie H. talked aobut the SPRI comapany out of Canada and some neat products they offer there. I went to their website and was facinated by all their stuff. The band from Dynaband Co. may be okay for me, but would my hubby be better off with something more durable? There are allll these colors of tubing, but I find no corasponding weight/resistance references. We will be in England for two weeks and will run for cardio and will need good strong tubing for resistance work. Debbie, you mentioned a xering or something like that...what does that do? Also, a door attachment sounds like it might help. Have you tried one? I would appreciate input from all those who have done such workouts. Thanks Debbie Dailey

Hi Debbie!

I only have a minute here as I am running late getting ready for my class. We use the dynaband type bands in our class and I think that they would be VERY effective for what you want to do.(Including your hubby!) We use the purple color which I believe is the strongest resistance. If you need another band (purple) I could mail you one. My cost on them is $3.00. As far as the SPRI products, I am sure that it was HoneyBunch that posted the info on that equipment. I know she is very happy with several differents products she has ordered thru them. Maybe, when she gets home tonight, she cam jump in here & give you more info on the SPRI products. I have a SPRI band but to be honest with you, I have never used it yet!! I am too busy using my tapes, dumbbells & barbell. One other thing~One of my students uses a SPRI tubing & does the exact same thing we do with the DynaBand type bands, so like I said, I think you can go either way. Let me know if I can be of more help to you. Good for you & your hubby thinking ahead to keep fitness in your plan!!! Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

RE: Hi Debbie!

Hey Debbie,
Wow, I went away briefly to get my house together and my hubby was in here ( combo music/computer room) practicing his bassoon when he said he checked and saw you had ALREADY responded. Gee, thanks for such a prompt response. YES, I would like to order a Purple band from you..just tell me how. And I will hunt HB down for more info. What do you teach Deb? Wow, you are so interesting. I would love to get my Cert. for Perosnal Trainer. I just recently got my primary cert. with Ballys Fitness centers and am currently working on a Kickboxing class. LOVE kickboxing!!! Tell me more...Thanks DebD

You're....

...very WELCOME!! Just click on the envelope right above my post and it will give you my E-mail address. Just send me your address and I'll get that band out to you. I don't think I have any at my house right now. I left my exercise gear bag at my location since I have another class tomorrow morning. I will bring one home tomorrow & stick it in the mail to you.

I teach 4 claases of Hi/Lo aerobics a week with a little kickbox thrown in once in awhile. I just kind of make it up as I go. (The kickbox) Cathe has given me some great ideas!! We also do toning with hand held weights, ankle weights and the DynaBand. I am certified thru the company I teach for which is Fitness Factory. It is out of Dearborn Heights, Mich. (I live in Ohio) I just teach at a very small church about 15 minutes from my home. I have taught classes since 1981 and I love to share fitness with others. If you read my profile, then you know we have a good time!!!:7 I know you live in California, otherwise, I'd say stop in for a class!! I have been throwing around the idea of getting my own certification but it seems like there isn't enuf hours in the day. GREAT for you on getting your primary cert. How fun! Have you started to teach yet? You seem like you would be a fun instructor. Good luck with getting your kickbox going. It's so much fun especially when we can cheat & get GREAT ideas from Cathe! ;-) I'll be waiting on your E-mail. Have a nice evening. (Where in Calif. are you located? I have relatives in Modesto & Los Gatos.) Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Here I am....

....and I LOVE to plug Spri Products!!! You simulate nearly every gym workout with the Xertube and the door attachment, such as lat pulldowns, tricep work, and leg extentions and leg curls with the Ultratoner and Xering. The colors run like this:

Lightest resistance is Yellow, then in order from lightest to toughest: Green, Red, Blue and Black.

Personally, I use black. They are VERY durable...I have had my black ones for at least two years. When I go on vacation, I map out a workout plan from my book and pack the Xertube, Ultratoner, Xering and door attachment. This is all you need. For cardio, pack your running or walking shoes, some music tapes and a walkman player and you're all set!! No excuses, JUST DO IT!

I use the Spri tubing even when I have access to dumbbells and barbells. This morning I'm going to do Lean Legs and part of PS legs with some Spri exercises thrown in. I personally prefer the inner thigh work done with tubing, but that's just me.

Good luck and keep us posted!

RE: Here I am....

Hey HB!!
I don't think that I have actually had and excahnge with you yet, but I feel like I know you from all the posts I have read over the past couple of years. You are such a joybug. Thanks for your input here. Okay, so I went to the Spri website and saw the Ultratoner and door attachment...very cool, but what is a Xering?? And is Xertube just another name for tube/band? I thought I would order a Purple tube from Debbie H. How would the Purple compare to the black? Shoot it might be good to have the Green Dynaband, purple, and black tubing. What do you think?? I'm in a tubing quandry!!!! The door attachment sounds like a must have--I mean come on how can you otherwise simulate those lovely lat rows? Boy, you ladies are my heroes! I was begining to dread the BIG 40, but I come away so inspired by the joy and strentgh of your spirit. Thanks for sharing so openly. I should recieve my MIS very soon and will be thinking about you all pounding and lifting away in your little corners of the world.
Later,
Deb D

RE: Here I am....

An Xering is just that....a ring that I especially like for doing outer thigh work. You step into it and have it around your ankles and pull your legs apart. You can also us it to do leg extensions. Each of the tubing pieces have instructional pamphlets that included free.

I started out with blue, but I lift heavy weights, and I like a lot of resistance. The phone order folks could probably guide you on that.

You certainly don't have to dread 40 or 50! Just keep on truckin' and doin' your Cathe tapes, and all the gals at the senior center will hate you!!! ;-)

get a door attachment!

Hope you don't mind my popping in on this thread.

I don't have the SPRI products, but years ago I got a similar exercise tubing set-up called the Lifeline Gym. It really was helpful to supplement the free weights I was doing at home. It came with a bar and door attachment as well.

It gave me some exercises that are hard to duplicate with free weights, most notable the lat pull down, triceps press downs (is that what they're called?), seated rows, and a few others that I can't think of right now. Oh - a standing chest press and flye.

A couple of exercises just DON'T work for me with the band, though, notable shoulder exercises like standing side laterals. That might well just be me, though (I have truly wimpy shoulders).

Recently, they've been gathering dust because I don't have any band videos, but a little while ago I pulled them out while doing a Firm tape cuz I was just darn tired of those one armed dumbell rows and was very happy at the different way they hit my muscles. So, I think they are nice to have either on their own or as a cross trainer to free weights.

RE: get a door attachment!

Hi Sophie!
I saw a door attachment and bar w/tubing and it looked cool, like something I could take on my trip since it colapses for easy storage and tavel. I sure do appreciate your input. Gosh, sure do like this place. Thanks alot! Debbie Dailey

RE: Here I am....

Hey HB~
My hubby just broke one of his toes on his right foot. A real bummer since he likes to run. He tried to do lunges in the PS legs and no can do! Just a bunch of squats, plies and hovers for him and, oh yea, those step-ups. I hear toes can take a while to heal...I won't mention that to him, I'll let the Dr. tell him. You'd have to commit me if I couldn't do cardio for weeks on end. Mercey, lets hope Deb doesn't have a major injury cuz the whiiining would have all of you guys rolling your eyes and implorimg me to get a grip! Anyway, that's not why I'm posting. Sorry, I'm back on track now. Oh yea, the xering...sounds like a winner. And the tubes? Do they have a fancy name too? You said you like the black huh? Think I'll get one too. Thanks HB. Bake something yummy for us here in Califonia, but don't eat the whole thing:). Deb D.

RE: Here I am....

The big tube thing is an "Xertube." That's what you use with the door attachment to do the lat pulldowns and tricep pushdowns. I is also good for rows. Sometimes at home I work out my own routines alternating tubing and freeweights.

RE: Here I am....

HB~
OOOOOH, okay xertube for the door attachemnt. Now, here we go again....What do you know about the bar/tubing doohickie? You tired of talking rubber yet? I promise, I'll make a decision soon. It's just that you guys know so much out there. Hey, Honey Bunch, have a fantastic Valentines Day! You are probably baking something illegal aren't you? Oooooh, girl you are dangerous. So glad we arn't neighbors cuz I'd be finding every reason to borrow a cup of sugar and that's just what this latin booty needs! Thanks as always for the info. your the best! Deb Dailey

RE: Here I am....

I don't have the Xercise bar 'cause I don't need it with all the other tubing I have. You really need to get the book "Rubberized Resistance Exercises" that shows how to do exercises by utilizing all the products. If you're going on a trip, don't pack the book, but map out your routines in advance and just pack the Xertube, Ultratoner, Xering and door attachment. That is your suitcase gym!!! That's ALL you need, believe me!!!

RE: Here I am....

HoneyB~
The book? One buys from Spri Products?? On the website I saw mention of "charts" I suppose for exercises. Back at ya. By the way, how was your Valentines Day? Steve and I had a music job last night, so we provided "romance" for others...ah well, I just looked at him adoringly from across the stage. Sigh. Did get some chocolate though, that intense Belgium dark chocolate w/almonds from Trader Joes--Rapture! Gleeeeeeee! Later, Deb D

RE: Here I am....

I did get the book from Spri Products.

I don't get into Valentine's day....too guilt-trip-commercial for me. Same with Mother's day, the biggest guilt trip holiday of all! So now my true colors come out. If I like you, I'll buy you a gift....I don't need a holiday to tell me I have to. :D:D:D;-)

RE: Here I am....

Amen Sister!
Or, maaaaybeee you would bake them something? True colors are the best. Thanks for the info. AGAIN...It is an absolutely gorgeous day here in central Calif.--very bright and cool. Perfect running weather. Can't seem to get it together today for a workout. I think I am just plain pooped. I hate to get into a workout and find that I don't have the steam. Yuk! But, I think I'll grab myself by the scruff and do it anyway. I have a ton of things to do today. Besides, I want to earn some of my V-day chocolate! Have a wonderful day Hb. Debbie Dailey

RE: Here I am....

I am sort of laying off the baking until I move, so I keep my freezer inventory down. I always bake too much, so the excess goes into the freezer. Now I keep it to bread.

So, you're a professional singer!! How cool! I want to take singing lessons, not to become a professional, but just to know how!!! I have good range and perfect pitch, but don't know how to do "singing breathing."

What kind of singing do you do, and is that why you travel?

RE: Here I am....

Hey HB,

Just realized that if you switch HB, you could be BH--Brick House?? Okay, enough. I really have a corney sense of humor. Yes,your right, breathing correctly is EVERYTHING! Correct breathing can make a bad singer sound good. Think about all the stage singers with marginal pitch and all that volume. Breath control babeee. Perfect pitch...WOW! I could use some of that. My pitch is always on the verge. I have my hubby in the front row ( sax/flute) to remind me with certain signals how off I might be. Singing is indeed a very physical as well as emotional endeavor.I did not start singing until I was about 21yrs. old. You have got to treat yourself to lessons HB, then find a place to sing, like church, or a womans choir or shoot start your own band...The Honey Comb?

I grew up singing in a latin orchestra alla Anna Connie ( remember Lawrence Welk?) anyway, I met my husband there (he was the only gringo in the band) married him and we had a band for about ten years. I went back to college, had kids, yada-yada and stopped singing for a while. You see, I think I am really a dancer who just happens to sing a bit. Anyway, about two years ago I was asked to audition with The Joe Lenigan Little Big Band ( This just happens to be the best Wedding Band in our area) well I was scared out of my head and sooo intimidated! Long story short, I got the gig cuz they needed someone who could cover all the torch songs and latin stuff! We have a male vocalist who is AMAZING...I just sit and listen in awe. The Band tours England every summer apparently they love Big Band music there...hope they like latin singers with an attitude. Steve and I are having a blast. So I need to keep my weight off cuz I am in gowns every weekend and there is no room for extra tortillas in them and I'm too cheap to buy different sizes. I put on 8 pounds between oct-Dec...so I am a woman on a mission right now. It sure helps to read all the posts and stay motivated. So there, Debs life story...sorry if I have gone on too long. I have just had a cup of espresso and a piece of lovely dark chocolate and I am ready for a run. Again, thanks for all your help HB. Have a great day! Deb

RE: Here I am....

honeybunch!

Hi and how are you? Just curious about the Xertubes! I have the Xertube itself and at this moment I'm considering buying one of the rings for floor legwork training. Would you recommend the Xering for use during the floor segment of PS Strong Legs or would you recommend the Lex Loops or the Double Rings? Have you tried this? Which do prefer? When using the rings is there less stress on the knees? Sometimes when I use ankle weights it bothers one of my knees (and I am watching my form just in case you're wondering if that could be the trouble :))

I know, too many questions!! :) But I never thought of using those for floorwork until now! Just yesterday I was getting my order ready for Spri and these aren't even on the list. I may have to add them on!

Thanks much for your help!
