Training for !/2 marathon while breast feeding

Hey gang, I'm about to start training for a 1/2 marathon coming up in June. I have a soon to be 9mo boy that I plan to breastfeed until he's a year (June 9). I'm just wondering if anyone out there has trained for a 1/2 while breastfeeding & within a year from delivering & if you ran into problems or had good luck with anything. I'm worried my milk supply will drop as it seems like every time I try to loose the last of my baby weight it drops, but it may all be in my head. Just want to hear your stories & looking for advice. Thanks - Crystal

Since noone else wants to reply, I guess I will ;)

I have not done a 1/2 marathon...but I have trained for 10Ks and other runs while nursing (it seems that I"m either pg or nursing now-a-days ;) )

I am fortunate enough not to have any milk depletion problems and even with a 15 month old---STILL have plenty of milk. As a rule, when training it's super important to stay hydrated and to consume enough calories to maintain milk supply. I would imagine you won't be running more than 90 minutes at a pop--typically---so you should be just fine; however, every body is different. If you find that your milk production is going down you could always pick up a bottle of Fenugreek at a GNC or Nutrition store to perk things back up.

Good luck training, and enjoy that little boy!
