Top Chef made me sick last week

Did anyone see this on Bravo?? DW and I caught the tail end of this last season and kind of enjoyed it, so we were kind of eagerly awaiting the new season. Now that it's here, it can't end soon enough for me!!

The amount of vulgarity used on the show was reprehensible, every other word it seemed was deleted. If I want language like that, I could go to a dive bar down the street where I live, I don't need it on TV, sorry.

I love Top Chef, and have somewhat of a potty mouth myself (only in the privacy of my home, not in public) so that didn't bother me.;)

I hate to admit it, but I'm a Top Chef addict. I didn't notice the deletions you're referring to. However, I am very tired of the drama involved every time they send someone home. I think they should build up to the big moment when they announce the winner, rather than making the loser the big moment. Yet I watch it because the food and the guest judges are fun and Tom Colicchio is dishy (when he's not saying anything ;) ).

I like TC (the show AND Tom!), too. I didn't notice the language either. What I don't like is the "personal conflicts" between the contestants. Who cares? I want to see how they take the challenges and make them into great or not so great dishes.

I will have to say that, like the judges last week, I was shocked that working chefs/cooks had no idea how to make a souffle, what piccata was, or how to season a basic shrimp dish. Pack their knives, indeed!

I know! Even I know what piccata was...thanks to Foodnetwork!;) I feel like they have to do the "drama" with the cast because thats what is on all the other silly reality shows. Bravo has always done the reality show very well, elevating it to something you can actually sit down and watch for an hour.
I love the creative process, watching someone take something and make a delicious dish or a beautiful article of clothing (Project Runway is another fave) just blows me away, I paint,so I guess the creative part of these shows really excites me-that, and well, I'm with Nancy, Chef Tom is one sexy beast.:7 And its fun to watch Padama and Heidi "play the role" of the pretty judge. Although, I get weary of hearing Heidi's "Either your in or your out" jibberish.

Padma is not just a pretty face. She's written some good cookbooks. I love her last one; she's definitely not afraid to put the heat in spicy food!

I love Top Chef. I too couldn't believe all the "chefs" that didn't know how to make classic dishes. I was yelling at the TV about how to make Chicken Piccata. I still don't think that guy knows what it is, LOL.

As far as the cursing, I did notice that one guy that made crab cakes that didn't win. I can't remember his name, but he was cursing a ton and wasn't too classy.

I loved the elimination challenge. I thought it was a cool idea to pair the people off like they did and have them go head to head. Also, that they had to make certain dishes. It seems like this season is going to be tough.

I love Top Chef and Project Runway too! I didn't notice all the cursing but given the fact that they are in stressful situations, I guess some people can blow their top every once in a while. I don't care for 2 of the contestants. I can't remember their names but they were against each other in the challenge. I can't remember what they made but both are very arrogant.

I love it being in Chicago as I am originally from the area. I loved seeing the pizza at the beginning!!! My mouth was watering!! :)

Jerry, I am so with you on this! I don't watch TC but we watch Biggest Loser and Jillian's mouth was ridiculous this past week. They had to bleep the "F" word out several times and my DH got off the couch and walked out of the room saying, I don't need to listen to that! (Even thought they bleep it out, you still "see" her say it!) I don't know why they think they have to use language like that? That said, I sat and watched the rest of the show because I love seeing the challenges and their great weightloss. :7

I did notice one or two of the contestants had a bit of a mouth on them, but I was able to get past it. I love that show!! I don't have to worry that my kids will see/hear it because it comes on at 9 here, and I watch it after they are in bed. I am just in awe of the contestants' talent. Wish I could cook like that!

"and well, I'm with Nancy, Chef Tom is one sexy beast.:7 "

Yay!! I'm not alone. I really thought it was just me. But, although I find him rather harsh, that guy is SOOOO my type. :9 :9 :9 :9

Well, according to my SO, who is a chef, that's what it sounds like in a kitchen. He compared it to being in the Army or on a construction site:p

As a former waitress, I agree, Shelley. Of course, we "Land Stewardi" gave as good as we got, only to have to turn it off so that our customers wouldn't know the drama their special order just caused!!! Ah, good times...

Well, I never saw anything gross come from serious cooks and chefs (but I did see some "diet sabotage" for pain-in-the-ass customers), but, one of my first waitress jobs was at a chain where, of course, many high-school students were hired for part-time. A ticked off 17-year-old "cook" made a very special order for someone who came in at 10:00, when the restaurant had just closed and everyone was ready to leave, and demanded that we stay open for his party. Hey, I was hanging out at the bar; I didn't serve him, and let's just say, I couldn't watch the guy eat his dinner.

That's why I never piss off the staff and it's one of the MANY reasons I don't go to chains.

<Ah, yes, the special orders. I've heard stories about some *very* special orders>
Makes me wonder is Tosca Reno's meals are as clean as she thinks when she dines out. HAAAAAAA!

Jerry, is that dive bar the Ugly Mugg? ;-)

I love that show. And I love the drama. It is, after all, reality TV & that kind of stuff is what gets ratings. At least the drama isn't annoyingly staged like it is on so many other reality shows. Plus, being reality TV, I'm guessing those contestants swear 10X more than what we actually hear.

Now if I could only learn how to cook.........I swear, whether they know how to make souffles or not I always drool through the entire show......

Ohh, a Cape May fan, I see??? And just how is it that you are familar with America's Oldest Seaside Resort, Laura??

Nope, the place in question wasn't the Ugly Mug....it was the Rio Station.

I know me too...I watch that show and my mouth waters...same with the foodnetwork.

Hey Jerry, have you ever watched 'Ace of Cakes?" Its a fascinating reality sort of show on foodnetwork. These kids run a cake decorating biz, and make these incredibly creative cakes, its so much fun, and nope, they don't swear!;) The last time I watched they made a cake that had an Exorcist theme, Linda Blair, the twisting head and pea green vomit--everything made out of frosting and cake. Wow.:7
