Tom Venuto's Books

I'm in the process of reading his Body Fat Solution Book but I've also heard good things about his other book, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. Does anyone know how these two books differ?

Gerry

I have not read the Body Fat Solution but I have read Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle. Morningstar, another poster here, has read both - she's on a hiking trip at the moment but I am sure she would be happy to discuss both when she returns.

As for BFFM, it is very thorough and complete - putting it all together in way that is very usable. I bought the ebook, then sent it to kinkos to have printed and bound - it was worth every penny.

Gerry, here's a description from Tom himself:

"I have written two books about fat loss. Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle (e-book) is based on bodybuilding, fitness and figure methods of fat loss. It is a highly structured, by-the-numbers program designed for maximum precision. If you are an accountant, engineer, programmer, math whiz, or any other analytical or detail-oriented type (or a bodybuilder/physique athlete, of course), you will be in 7th heaven on Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle."

"The Body Fat Solution is based on lifestyle methods for the average male or female who is not a physique athlete, but has excess body fat and wants to get lean. It is a more general-guideline, ballpark-figure type of approach. While not as precise, its flexibility will appeal more to the intuitive person, especially those who are busy, stressed, emotional eaters who don't have the patience or personality for crunching numbers."

Hope this helps. I have BFFM, and it's basically changed my life. Just ordered Body Fat Solution too, and am also curious about the different approaches of both books. You probably can't go wrong with either one!:D

I have Tom's Body Fat Solution book, and have contemplated buying BFFM a million times. It frustrates me that I can't scan the book and see if it's suitable for me, or not.

In BFFM, does he give a very specific exercise program? IOW, is BFFM a complete program for someone to follow, wrt nutrition intake and exercise output?

I have no desire to follow his specific exercise program, if he has one. I've got all I need for that from Cathe, Amy Bento, Shaun T, Tony Horton, Eoin Finn, Shiva Rea, and my own creations. So, will I be wasting my money in buying BFFM, if I have no intention of following a specific exercise program? I'm interested in creating a specific nutritional program that will complement the training I'm currently doing.

Thanks!
Sandra

Sandra, this book is for you. It's not really about a specific exercise program, it's more about the eating part. IMO, you will love it!

Thanks for the quick reply, Dani! Did you finally get Body Fat Solution? Do you like it? I love it. The psychological aspect of healthy eating is the piece I've been needing. I've read through the book a couple of times, at least. It's very motivating. Now I'm ready to get more specific with what I eat.

Cheers,
Sandra

Yes, I did get my book, but haven't finished it yet. I'm like you, I also love the psychological aspect of how Tom helps you deal with eating healthy. I'm actually thankful for your post, because I've recently fallen off the eating clean wagon, and have been feeling like crap. So I think I'm going to get that book out and finish it. I've been intentionally ignoring it for days now, because I know if I start reading it again I'm going to have to face my demons. But it's time. I need to get back to it, and I know that only Tom will help me believe in myself again. Sorry if this is depressing, I'm just in a temporary slump.:(

Dania,

That's FANTASTIC that you've become remotivated to clean up your eating! I find that motivation is never constant. I have to work on staying motivated with as much conscious effort as I put towards being consistent with my workouts. I'm always reaching for new motivational things to read, even if I know what they're going to say. It's so helpful to hear it time and again. We are constantly bombarded with advertisements that encourage unhealthy eating and a "convenient" (lazy) lifestyle. I continually search out positive influences to counteract all those negative influences. Tom's Body Fat Solutions book is the best one I've found, so far. Oh, and these forums are an invaluable source of inspiration!!

I'll download the ebook today. Thanks for the advice!
