To Cathe and for all you pros-

I was just wondering how many of you mix up your cardio and wieght work in one workout or how many of you only do cardio one day and weight work the next? Also, is it more effective to concentrate only on a few body parts during a weight workout or would an overall body workout have the best results? By results, I mean shedding pounds and gaining definition.

Thaks in advance-

I typically put them together. I usually do 40 min. of cardio and then 20 to 30 min. of toning. I alternate lower and upper body each day. I workout 4-5 days per week. I don't do rotations. I do whatever I feel, but I have really toned and strengthened my body in the last couple years.:)

My routines vary, so some rotations I will do the weights and cardio on separate days and others I will do them on the same day.
If I do them on the same day, there are two ways I will do this. Either in circuit style (for example bootcamp, Circiut Max or SPJ or my own combination) or one followed by the other. I have even done rotations where both ways are incorporated.

I think a person will continue to get results by not sticking with any one method for too long. The length of time for everyone is variable and the variety keeps my attitude fresh. My favorite length of time for a rotation is 4 weeks. If it is not my favorite, then I know I only have to keep it up fro 4 weeks and I get to try something different.

Mine varies as well. Some weeks I'll do total body with cardio, and others I'll do weights and cardio separately. I think this is one of those individualized things where you have to experiment a bit and find what works best for your body type, lifestyle, time, etc. I find that in order for me to increase definition, I need to concentrate on one area at a time - for example, by using the Slow & Heavy or Pure Strength series for a few weeks. To shed pounds, it takes a combination of cardio, endurance work, and eating as cleanly as I can. I am also finding intervals are GREAT for losing fat, at least for my body type. Hope this helps! There is a lot of information out there, and some of it may seem conflicting, but by gathering information from credible sites you can come up with a plan for yourself. If it's not giving you the desired results, then try something different. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your replies!! I think I keep reading different things and getting confused. I think I'll just figure out a four week rotation and stick with it and see what happens!

Thanks again!

That sounds good. Eventually you'll find what works for you, and then change it a bit every now and then. There really is no one right way. Just be sure to focus on intensity, form and variation.
