I was thinking of getting my husband one for x-mas. What is one of the cheaper ones that is still very good? And what is "Tivo service"...all of them say that it is "required".
Can someone explain to me how this works?? We would just be wanting to record a few movies and/or few sitcoms per week...
Any info from those of you that have one would be so appreciated!
TiVo or DVR (from your cable company) does require a subscription. The box was free and the service is 9.95 a month I beleive from my cable service. When I looked a while back - TiVo was 12.95 a month - but I could be way off on that.
I don't think you would find one person that has either that would give them up now. I absolutely LOVE it. I have 'season passes' setup for my favorite - so that everytime a new Desparate Housewives comes on - it records it. I dont have to do anything at all. And the fact that you can pause and rewind live TV while you are watching it. So if you miss what someone said - or a scene that you were watching because you DS spilled something - you simply hit rewind - watch it - then hit the "live tv" button to get back to where you were... It's great!
Ditto what Anne said. Once you try Tivo, it's hard to go back. Yes, you'll need to pay a monthly fee to use the Tivo/DVR service... although my DH, being the huge geek that he is, has done a little "tweaking" of our DVR unit so we don't have to pay those pesky monthly fees. }(
I asked about Tivo a few weeks back b/c I was thinking of buying one for my DH for Christmas too so you might want to search for it to see what I was told about it as well.
I also got resounding positive feedback and decided to buy it. It just got delivered yesterday as a matter of fact! I hope he likes it!
