Thanks to those ladies who answered my first question!!!

Now for my 2nd question....there are 2 models I am considering...the 40 hour tivo and the 80 hour tivo...the $ difference is quite substantial so I need to know your opinnions on which to buy....is having all of that extra time worth it TRULY????

TIA again!:)

Wendy,

I didn't see your first question, however we have the Tivo where you can tape two shows at once. I think that is worth having. Also, while taping one show you can actually watch something else. I'm not sure if that it the difference in 40 hour and 80. I'm not sure if that really helps you.

We have the 40 hour one. It's usually fine since it's used mainly to tape kid shows throughout the week...we jut let those time out (meaning they delete after a certain amount of time). However, there have been maybe two times when we had our stuff on there, accumulated (movies and the like) that I wished we had the larger unit. Are you looking to TiVo movies...longer things? If so, go with the larger unit. If it's just piddly 30 minute shows, the occasional movie and maybe a few hour long shows and you're watching them or okay to let them time out, get the smaller.

Now I remember when it became a big pain in the behind...a friend wanted me to tape "Into the West" for her. It took up a lot of space on TiVo until I took the time/figured out how to transfer it to tape. It wasn't that hard but I had to do it when we weren't using the tv.

I don't think DH or myself will want to SAVE much of anything we record for any extended period of time. If there is a movie we record and like it enough, we will go buy it on dvd. Otherwise anything else will probably be recorded for a one-time watch and that will be it wether it be a movie, a show, a sporting event or whatever.

I'm leaning towards the 40 hour I think....unless some one else posts something extremely wonderful about the 80 hour unit! :)

Thanks again!:+

Do you have to pay some type of monthly fee to your cable company? I have Comcast. If so, do you know what it costs? I was just curious because I have been interested in buying one too.

ETA: I just noticed the other Tivo thread:)

You can usually get a DVR through your cable company. It's like you're renting it from them, so you don't have to buy it. We had Charter and it runs between $6.00 to $13.00 a month (on top of your regular service) depending on if you want HD or just regular.
