time off

Cathlete
how much time do you all take off from working out? i usually do 1 week every 6 months. next week is supposed to be my week but its so hard for me.

I hear what you are saying - how it is hard to take workout time off.

I am the same, I hate to take the time off, but my DH keeps telling me to take a day or 2 off in between workouts so that I can form and shape my muscles.

When muscles heal, they become stronger.

He keeps telling me this, but I have a hard time taking more than 2 days off!

:)

I am an addicted workout queen!

:)

Good luck!

It's way too hard for me too. Last time I tried a recovery week I failed miserably. But feeling like I could use one so here's what I'm doing for the next 3 weeks. This week - only cardio and squeeze type w/o's - like Fluidity and LB. Next week I'll do some full body muscle work (a la PH, ME, MM, etc.)with cardio days in between. The the following week I'll return to my splits with more focus. I'll see if it proves helpful. The muscles really do need that down time. Good luck!

I'll be walking the Komen 3-day (60 miles) the week after Cathe's RT. To view my webpage go to: https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=202302&supid=166016627

i will be at my vacation house in the keys all next week which is why i decided i was going to take a week off now since i will have family and stuff around. i keep going back and forth about this b/c i have such a hard time not working out for a week. i think i'm going to bring my workout clothes and cathe tapes in case i can't take it but the plan is NO WORKING OUT!

I took an unintentional week off this week. I had gone out with a friend on Saturday and was in no shape for working out on Sunday (had a ton of errands and a movie to see too). Monday is my "no time for a workout" day. Tuesday, I decided to hang out with my daughter outside while the weather was nice. I have to go sleep at the Aquarium tonight with my daughter and her Brownies troup, so tonight is out. So Wed & Thursday, I just blew off because...well, why bother? I won't get home in time for my Saturday morning workout tomorrow either.

I don't feel good about the week off. I've been pretty sluggish all week.

I take 1 planned rest day per week. I have never take a rest week though and don't think I could. I'd have to do SOMETHING! I did the recovery weeks when I did the X and that was nice. Still worked out but it wasn't as strenuous. No weight training. It was a nice break. I am going to try to schedule recovery weeks periodically for myself from now on. :) I may try a week of yoga only one time...

i feel so good when i workout!!!! it changes my whole attitude for the day. so i probably won't take the week off but if i miss days i'm going to let it slide. i'm thinking about keeping my early morning schedule so i can get it done, have a great start to the day, and do whatever my family wants to do for the rest of the day. i already take 2 rest days every week (saturday and sunday). so i'm not sure if a whole week is needed especially if i have access to workout. thanks for all of your responses. I must say, today is one of those feel really good days. I just feel so positive, healthy, and well rested. I wish i always felt like this. Its a result of a good nights sleep and a good workout of course. I did cathe's SS today.:)

I take one day off a week no matter what. Most of the time I use that time to run errands after work, etc. But my body needs it, too.

I also have unscheduled recovery weeks because I'm prone to injury. This has just started within the past year or so, and I'm learning to accommodate.

A word of advice - if you start to feel a little run down, or if you feel persistent aches that are not DOMS, take a break. Otherwise you'll end up like me and be forced to stop - probably for longer than a week - to recover from more serious injuries.
