Time for a new step?

Worknprogress

Cathlete
I have been using my Reebok step for years and years and it has served me well. However, a couple of months ago I started having problems with my feet hurting during step workouts. I thought it was my shoes and bought new shoes, those didn't help and bought another and another and not one of the 3 shoes helped. I am a runner and have an elliptical trainer and do all the other Cathe workouts and they only bother my during the step workouts primarily the balls of my feet. Of course, Cathe does a lot of jumping in her step workouts and by the end of the workout my feet feel bruised. My step is probably about 10 years old. My question - could it be my step and the little bit of padding it has it just worn out. For those of you that have the step that Cathe uses - how do you like those?

Hi Debbie!

My Rebbok step is older than yours! You sure is your step? A new Cathe step wouldn't hurt!

Try this stretches, see if that helps!
From your post, I'd assume plantar fasciitis. There are stretches, etc to do to help you out. http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/thr_report.cfm?Thread_ID=144

Also have your feet rubbed/massaged as much as possible, and try rolling a golf ball with your foot during the day!}(

Hope this helps!
Good luck!

I had that about 6 years ago and went to the doctor and boy, was that painful, especially in the morning getting out of bed. This pain is in the ball of my foot and doesn't bother me until I'm part way through one of Cathe's step workouts. It doesn't happen during MIC or any intense floor jumping. Maybe I just irritated it and I need to stay away from the step workouts for a while because if your step is older than mine - it is probably okay. Guess I'm just looking for a quick fix. Love her step workouts - easier on my body than running.

Thanks for the info, though!

Debbie try these stretches, it sounds like what I had PF! I was in tears! I did the stretches 3x a day, after two weeks I was pain free! I also bought new Rykae step shoes! What a difference it made :)

Good luck!

Doesn't plantar fascaitis cause pain in the heel of the foot and not the ball? I have recurring pain in the ball of my foot, and I never considered PF because I didn't think my pain fit the profile.

You may want to try ordering "the health club step" from Cathe's site.

I have it and love it! :)

Also, I love my Ryka Aerobics Instructor sneakers.

Good luck! :)

My PF was in my heel. I could actually work out on the balls of my feet. In fact it felt better to wear higher heeled shoes because I wasn't on my heel as much.

The Reebok step is known for not having as much "give" as the Club Step, but I'd also look into shoes and in not doing too much step (I think most people do well with step 2-4 times a week, with some days off doing other types of cardio, though some might even be able to just to it once a week).

I had pain in the heel of my foot and the ball!My feet feelt bruised! If you wear the wrong shoes the ball will bruise ,too! In stepping your feet goes side to side!!! I wore running shoes and cross trainers for stepping at first! This shoes are made to go forward not side to side! I hope this makes sense!!!
Also, I love my Ryka Aerobics Instructor sneakers. I do Cathe's rotation every month and I do alot of stepping! I have no more pain!
:D

Good luck!

I have the Reebok step. I have had it for a number of years now (I'd say about 8+). While I don't have any pain when I use it, I do notice lately that it creeks in certain areas when I step on it! I think I might treat myself and invest in the step on Cathe's site!
