This question is TOTALLY unrelated to fitness, but...

Do any of you that have house dogs have a doggie door? I am trying to get my DH to agree to install one when we do some renovations to the house. He is pretty much dead set against it. I need some good "PRO" arguements to go with his CONS!
I get most of my exercise these past few days just opening that door for my precious pups to go in and out, and in and out, and in...you get the picture!!

Here's another unrelated question. How do I get my digital pictures loaded in here so you can see me & my boys?

I just know someone will be able to help me out - that's why I love Cathe's forum so much. She has given us a place to express all facets of our lives and make some great friends!! Thanks guys!!

cat door

Hi Tricia,
I don't have a dog, but I do have a sliding glass cat door. I never even knew they existed, and was worried when we moved into an upstairs apartment that there would be no good way for the cats to get in and out. We went to Home Depot and were all set to buy materials to buildour own, and they told us they had them already made. It is really great and only cost 99 dollars--a lot more than the kit you buy to put a dog door into a regular door, but you don't ruin your door, either--, and we don't have to worry about ruining our front door in our apartment--which probably wouldn't go over too well with the owners

Anyway, hopefully you have a sliding glass door so that this will be helpful to you. If not just ignore me

Hi Wendy!

I used to have a sliding glass door, but we put in a french door. I'm looking into some options when we renovate next month. Some of the pet supply catalogs (Dr.Foster), have some neat ideas. I know my "puppies" will love me for it! Thanks!!

split household

My husband & his family are pro dog door. We've had them & I don't like them especially for puppies when you're trying to monitor them. I've taught my dogs to use a specific latrine area & to stay out of the flower beds at all times. You can't do that if they're coming & going. Our cat used to drag in his hunting trophies (dead & alive). We've had feral cats in the house. Neighbors who have them have rodent problems. Burglars can enter if you have a large dog door.

I'll admit to some benefits. You're not playing doorman or having screens & doors scratched up. And it lets puppies who wait to the last minute, rush outside for relief.

Thanks,Debra!

I think the comment you made that clinched it for me is "rodents" - I will not have to be installing a doggy door, my DH is petrified of mice/rats/any type of rodent! And I would need a BIG dog door, we're thinking of bringing in another dog later or sooner. (Ever heard of a Dogue de Bordeux?) Think Hooch. Thanks for the info! I don't mind the door traffic that much!!

What critter would dare visit your home?
