THIS is why I hate cooking!

I'm just on the Weight Watchers website trying to find new recipe ideas. There's one for a Mexican Beef Stew that sounds tasty...but I have no idea what the first ingredient even is! Dried Ancho peppers. What the heck???? Can you get those at the grocery store???

That whole searching the grocery store/pulling out ingredients/chopping things/dirtying multiple pans thing just irritates me. I need a personal chef that cleans up after himself AND does the shopping.

LOL Donna! Yes, you can get dried peppers at the grocery store, or you could simply sub a fresh one.

I have a personal chef, sort of. My SO is a chef. However, I think he needs a sous chef sometimes to clean up after him;)

Yum! DH is a real pepper head, so we always have a variety of dried peppers in the pantry.

We find the best variety in a Food Lion in an area of town that is predominately Hispanic...There are just baskets full of all different kinds!!!

Okay, now I want DH to make his veggie chili...hell, it's cold enough here to really enjoy it!

Good luck~

What Shelley said - you can get dried peppers at the grocery store, or sub fresh. :) Cooking's not that hard, once you get the hang of it.

Visiting a search engine, such as Google or Dogpile is helpful. Particularly when one is baffled by where to find "liquid smoke."
Also, if you are near any specialty food stores stop in and look around--it's an opportunity to get acquainted with what is out there--and have an idea where to pick it up when you need something.

Thanks....maybe I'll ask my friend who likes to cook if he knows who carries them. I don't like going to different places. I barely have time for my weekly trip for essentials.

I can certainly appreciate that. Sometimes I've given up on cookbooks because they call for such specialized ingredients but with practice I've learned where I can get most things....just finding the time to go to specialty stores is the trick...or the pain in the arse! ;-) x(

Donna you are a better woman than me ... if a recipe has an ingredient I don't know .. I won't try it .. LOL ..

I cook only by recipe (and not that often)

DH cooks only by his imagination .. and blows me away .. he made a brunswick stew just by what he "thought" was in it and it was AWESOME .. me .. yeah right .. no way would I have EVER attempted that!! LOL .. :7

Yeah my friend who cooks thinks I can get them in the Indian food section at Wegmans. I'll probably have forgotten about them by the time Sunday shopping comes around. Ha!

Speaking of Wegmans, have you bought any of their cloth shopping bags? They're great! So much better than plastic or paper. I bought 6 of them.
