I just had to share this one!:) Its pretty much back to the "people who don't exercise" post. The types of people who have nothing good to say about exercise but still which they had the willpower to do it:eek:
The latest I heard (from work) was that exercise gives you wrinkles! I don't know, maybe there is some theroy behind this but this came from a girl who eats cake for her breakfast.
I pretty much bust out laughing in her face. She got a little peeved with me and claimed that it was true b/c (get this) your skin is moving when you exercise so it gives you wrinkles.I just kept shaking my head and telling her that that she doesn't know what she is talking about.
Never mind the stress that it releives, the better eating that comes along with exercising and the good nights sleep that you get after you just did Imax2.People who exercise(in my opinion) are more likely to take better care of themselves on a daily basis. Not that people who don't exercise don't but I eat alot healthier now, then I did before I exercised.I am more aware of what good and bad actually is.
Just wanted to share. As anyone else heard of this tall tale?

That's a hoot and actually I heard something similar one time too. But what I heard was it gave you wrinkles because of the reduced fat layer under the skin.

:7 Your skin is moving when you exercise so it gives you wrinkles, that is a hoot! I didn't realize the skin on your face could be moving? HA!:D

Hi Lori, this is my first time hearing this exercise-causes-wrinkles story. I agree with you. You just have to LAUGH!:7:7:7 I've read from some magazine (and I can never remember which because we subscribe to so many) that aerobics, especially the hig-powered, high-intensity kind, causes acne because your stress hormones are activated during these types of workouts. Now, in another magazine I read that exercise -- doesn't matter if it's strength training or aerobic -- is good for your pores because all that sweat flushes out the dirt. So which is which?

I usually decide to take things like this with a grain of salt. I've had acne since I was 9 and the few treatments that have helped were the ones given by the dermatologist, from hydrocortisone injections for cystic acne, to antibiotics, to Retin-A. And now I'm on the pill, which has been SOMEWHAT successful in controlling my really bad zits.

As far as wrinkles go, I know that gravity will take its toll on me eventually. I know that constant smiling, laughing, frowning, squinting, etc. will eventually break down the collagen in my skin. I choose to exercise. It has too many benefits, and I'd be foolish to ignore such benefits.

And if I choose not to, I'll still get wrinkles ANYWAY. In this life, aging is non-negotiable.;( Just my two cents.

That's funny. I DID just read that somewhere as well. I wish I could remember where, but I laughed when I read it.

Of course your facial skin moves when you exercise--think about that grimace you make as you lift heavy or when Cathe says "almost done." LMAO! I know I make all kinds of stupid faces when I work out. LOL
:7

:D So the skin on your face does move, but while exercising does it move anymore than it usually does with daily smiling, talking etc. whereas it would cause wrinkles more so?

Perhaps we should wear a "face bra," like a character on "Ally McBeal" once invented (basically a jock strap for your chin and face).

I've recently read that intense exercise (the kind that build muscles and burns fat)can age you faster because it creates free radical damage in the body. It sounds quite plausible to me...and a good reason to eat lots of fruits and veggies and drink my green tea every day to counteract the effects!

haha - that's a good one!

Actually, I heard that sex gives you wrinkles as well but I'm willing to have a few crowsfeet or whatever they are called....

hehe

Where do people come up with these things?

I truely don't believe that you would get wrinkles faster with exersize, take a look at Cathe! She does not look her age at all, not even close. I think if anything it would help prevent aging, because you have more muscle tone and like some of you have said you eat healthier when you exersize.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I like to look at it that way, besides, doesn't just going outside give you wrinkles? I have decided that living is bad for you nowadays, ya know! I even heard that the air we breathe is bad for us. I just don't listen to that anymore.

Well, I don't know about exercising giving you wrinkles...but I remember hearing (an older) Edie Gorme say that if you want to get rid of wrinkles when you are older, gain some weight and let the fat puff out those wrinkles! She was poking fun at herself at the time!
