They put SUGAR in my Peanut Butter!

I loved Smart Balance peanut butter. It did have a very small amount of molasses (last ingredient, after the salt) mainly for color and flavoring. I loved the taste--kind of a roasted flavor. Last time I bought some, I noticed there was new packaging. So I opened a new jar yesterday to have my daily meal of high-fiber toast with PB & 1/2T of Smuckers spreadable fruit. I took a bite and YUCK! It was sweet. So I checked the ingredients, and they've added evaporated cane juice! BLECH! I immediately got on the web site and informed them that I would no longer be purchasing their product. Why do they think they have to add sugar????? I mean, their whole product line seems to be marketed to adults who want to get the right kinds of fats in their diet.

I guess it's back to Adams PB for me.:( Meanwhile, I guess I won't be adding the jam to my toast, since it's too sweet already.

I had the exact same experience when they'd sold out of Whole earth peanut butter and I had to change. Sugar is not something that I expect in my lovely peanut butter. I swiftly put the lid back on and threw it away. With a small growl anda large frown!:mad:

I know how you feel. About once a week or so I get the "protein plate" at Starbuck's for lunch. It's good. Has a hard-boiled egg, a mini whole wheat bagel, 2 pieces of cheddar cheese, apple slices, grapes. And a packet of "peanut butter" complete with sugar and salt. Why do they think peanut butter needs sugar and salt?

I guess sugar is cheaper than peanuts (and easier to get people addicted to?).

Even worse, IMO, is the Skippy (? or is it Jiff? ) "natural" peanut butter that contains palm oil and sugar. Since "natural" isn't a regulated term, I guess anything that originates in nature could be included, but really....
