The Recent Suicides of Andrew and Michael

I just wanted to take a moment to remember Andrew Koenig and Michael Blosil (Marie Osmond's son) and to honor and support their families. Both, it appears, died by their own hands this week...one here in downtown Los Angeles, and the other in Vancouver. It is heartbreaking.

Here are the articles:

The author of the second article...her son actually committed suicide in NYU's Bobst Library. My best friend is a librarian there. I remember visiting her there and asking why there were tall plexiglass walls along each story of the library. When she told me, I just couldn't believe it. That it happened so often...and the trauma of being in that library when they happened.

I don't know if anyone on this forum has been touched by suicide. But I just cannot imagine the pain these families are going through. It must be the hardest thing to watch someone you love so much live with such severe depression and not be able to help them. And then to cope with a suicide...I can't even imagine.

I found several organizations committed to suicide prevention...but wonder if any of you recommend one in particular. Or know ways that the American public can become involved. Is there a way to be involved...or to stop someone from suicide? I honestly don't know. I'm sure this is something the families deal with...the anguish of "What could I have done?"

All my thoughts and prayers certainly go out to these families...and to all who are dealing with the loss of loved ones today.

Jonezie - I heard about Marie Osmond's son on the radio this morning. It really is such a tragedy when someone's life gets to the point where they feel that is their only way out. Makes me so sad. :(

Thanks for your thoughtful post, Jonezie.

I am a long time fan and friend of the Osmond family, and the news of Michael's death has stunned us all. I can't imagine the horror that a parent goes through losing a child.

Thoughts and prayers to both Andrew's and Michael's families.
