The "No Sweets" Check-In - June 4, 2005

Lunacat

Cathlete
Happy Saturday!

I think the weekend may be pretty tough for us since there are more opportunities for temptation. So I would like to extend a ton of support to everyone who has undertaken this challenge! We are strong-willed people and we can make it if we stick together!

So far, so good today. I plan on staying in all weekend, working out, reading and knitting. Hopefully, by keeping my hands busy, I can keep my mind off of the sweet stuff.

How are you doing with the challenge today?

RE: The

Lunacat~

Good tip about keeping our hands busy so we don't use them to stuff our faces with any "baddies".

I was in the drug store and a little boy was choosing candy and his mom told him to put back whatever he had 'cuz he didn't like them and she pointed out the candy she knows he does like. Well, I caught myself keenly interested in his cast off and his beloved. I think I'm starting to have withdrawals....

So far so good tho!

Hang in there!

RE: The

Hey everybody I have beem doing good until today I think???

I started off with some toast and watermelon for lunch and a sensible meal at lunch. well for snack around 3:00 my kids wanted to go to the ice cream, well I did and didn't do bad. I know there is to be no junk food. Does sugarfree ice cream mean I've messed up? I hope I haven't screwed my challenge up. Some one let me know what this means.

very sad kim

RE: The

Don't be sad Kim. I think suger-free ice cream is somewhat on the fence but you could have gotten the full sugar variety and actually considered that a genuine slip up. :) You made a good choice. I don't know that I would have had the strength to chose sugar-free in that situation.

RE: The

Thanks, that makes me feel much better. I am determined to make it this month. I have cut out even my diet sodas and that is hard and all sweets.

And everyone pray for me at a wedding shower that I resist the cake and junk. I hope they have some veggies there.

I will go in there psyched!

RE: The

Last night I took the kids to Tasty Freeze (local ice cream stand) and didn't get anything. Boy it looked good, though.

Today my girlfriend and I went to the dollar store and walking through the candy aisle I saw my favorite candy - Hot Tamales - and just sighed while my gf stuck a box in her basket. x( x(

You're right, Lunacat, the weekends are the hardest!

RE: The

I am still in for the challenge, but I went away yesterday to a bed and breakfast for a scrapbooking weekend. Part of the deal is a dessert on Friday night, so I had 1/2 of a small brownie with frosting! :(

HOWEVER, there were a MILLION other sweets there. I don't even know what was there, because I never looked at the table (filled with junk)! This is my usual place where I would totally blow it, and I didn't have even one bite (other than the brownie).

And then my friend and I ran 4 miles this morning, which is a big deal for me. My cheat is over and I wasn't even tempted by the other stuff. It was weird, though, because it bothered people that I didn't even finish my 1/2 of a brownie!

Keep up the resolve ladies! We are strong together!

RE: The

I went out for lunch with my SO and he ordered the Death by Chocolate for dessert - basically a flourless brownie. Normally not something I would be remotely interested in, but I think I drooled on the poor boy's dessert:p

I did eat the strawberries off his plate though:)

I just want you all to know that this has been SUPER difficult for me. I wasn't aware just how many times I went to that pantry for a cookie until I couldn't have one. Without everyone's support and knowing that I have to report in here every day, I wouldn't have lasted a single day! So I want to say a heartfelt thanks to all of you for joining me in this challenge. We'll make it through.:)

RE: The

Thank YOU, Shelley! This was your idea. It took a lot of guts to suggest the challenge and then create the accountability of a check-in. You're one tough chick. You can do this! We all just have to stick together.http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/fk/wolfgang.gif

Sweets have taken on a forbidden fruit-like appeal since we started this. Stuff I don't normally even like, such as vanilla cake and white chocolate, has become appealing. But just think, if we can give up sweet stuff for a month just to do it, we can do anything.

At least June only has 30 days!

RE: The

Hi shelley,

this was a great challenge. Everytime I want that milkshake or cookie I stop and think. I've got to answer for this. In the long run it will get us used to thinking that way. This is an excellent challenge.

I will keep all you in my head tomorrow at the wedding shower.

RE: The

Angie, I like hot tamales too! :( Oh well I forgot I liked them until you mentioned them so I must not really want them. I have been doing great with this for the most part. I have my moments when I want something sweet but I just grab a piece of fruit.

Shelley thank you for coming up with this challenge! It is nice to lnow we all still have will power. We can do it!

RE: The

Well girls I made it through day 4. It will definitely show how much power I have tomorrow going to a shower. I know I can do it. I have to go into this with positive thinking.

Let you know tomorrow.

RE: The

I want to join this challenge, albeit four days late... I actually follow a reasonable diet so didn't have sweets days 1 through 3. Today due to STRESS, I really overdid it. This challenge can help make me accountable... make stop and think... "I hope".

RE: The

Well I didn't last very long! x( I gave into my PMS cravings today and ate 1 of my sister's homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies AND *blush* later my mom wanted frozen custard. I didn't HAVE to eat any, and I knew that but I was really hot and just wanted some cold and creamy. I compromised and just got a small cup, so it was THAT bad. :p

Hanging my head in shame,
Connie ;)

RE: The

Great job choosing the sugar-free ice cream!! And way to go being so dedicated about this challenge! You inspire me!

Sending you lots of strength vibes for that wedding shower! You can do it!!

Connie :D

RE: The

Big thumbs up, Angie!! Those dollar stores have some really great candy sometimes, and I *know* how tough that can be to walk away from! :9

Connie :D

RE: The

Jane, Welcome to the bunch! Better late than never. :)

Congratulations to all of you who have resisted those temptations! And to those who haven't--We know you can do it and YOU know you can do it!

Today during a nap I actually had a dream where I was going to order Dominos Cinna-sticks with icing (Basically a breadstick with tons of cinnamon/sugar all over them) even though I KNEW it would be a "violation" of the June rules. I woke up before I could get them! DAMN! ;( x(

See I even think of you ladies in my sleep!

Keep up the good work ladies!

Nadine
