The letter C

Cathlete
Just finished High Step Challenge and realized I have NO IDEA what Cathe is talking about when we're supposed to stretch ourselves into the letter C... what muscles are we stretching when we do that? Is it just our sides?d I don't seem to stretch much of anything in that position.

Any information is much appreciated- thanks in advance!!

LOL me too! :) I got home at 6, but after doing life things (mail, cathe forum, etc) I didn't start the dvd until 7:45. My husband works as a hotel banquet manager, so he doesn't get home usually before 9 anyway. I was smart this afternoon and had a sandwich at 5- I felt I could keep doing the cardio much longer than I usually do.

Anyway, maybe the C question comes from my tiredness...

To stretch yourself into a letter C, what your trying to do is lay on the floor, and then stretch feet to the right and then head and upper body to the right trying to bring hands and feet closer to each other. To kind of form an unblanced C. This would stretch your left side. If you switch and bring both feet and upper body to the left you'd stretch your right side. Most important it to keep all body parts on the floor and you'll get an awesome side stretch.

Another way to think about it, is a side bend, hand on the hip and stretch over to the right, or hand on the hip and stretch over to the left. But we are just bending more then the upper body over, with the C stretch. It just gives you a lot better stretch and keeps you inline better.

I have to confess that I'm with Kit on this one. I know how to do it, and I actually get myself into a pretty passable "C", but I don't get a deep stretch from this and have no idea why. I prefer to stand up and do a similar stretch, with my legs crossed at the ankles (put the leg in front that you're leaning away from) so that I get my waist, sides and my ITB band too.
