Laughing Rooster

Hi Janie!

I won't ask how you found that but it is contagious!

I'm starting the second three week cycle of the beginner rotation this week and boy! Cathe did raise the intensity but I love that burn feeling every day when I'm done. I was doing the basic step all the way through without stopping by the end of the first 3 weeks and Body Fusion is definitely a little more intense. I'm jealous of all of you who are way beyond that but hopefully I'm getting there. I'm so glad I started over though because my legs needed it and she puts a lot of emphasis on the legs.

I think I have all the DVDs to start the intermediate rotation now thanks to the daily deals, which are really nice! I really like the step routines. They are so much fun and the time just flies by so I may substitute more step in the intermediate rotation. Kickboxing is really not my thing but I will give it a go. It is a good workout though.

As always, I'd love your thoughts!

Susan, My thoughts: Congratulations for wanting to live a long and healthy life. Staring over is always a good thing after taking a long break.

Don't have to be jealous, because You are already there, you just don't know it yet. We all struggle through these workouts no matter what level we are in.

I've also noticed the strong emphases on the legs. Might be because that is our foundation and we need a strong foundation to build on.

Good for you to prepare for the intermediate rotation.

Just remember you absolutely don't want a workout that is too easy or you are defeating the purpose. There should always be a little struggle working out. That is where you will see results. But also listen to your body. If you feel like jello or if you feel like going through mud, or even cranky for lack of sleep or over doing it, then ease off a bit. By that I mean take a day of rest and let your body heal before the next round of exercising. This will prevent injuries. Especially for those of us who are so excited about getting in fit (instant gratification).

I rushed through to heavier weight lifting and longer cardio when my body simply wasn't ready for it. Ended up with tennis elbow and it took over a year to heal. All that wasted time and effort. Lesson learned. Wanted to share that with you just in case you felt like that.

Oh yes, and after a rotation you will want to have a week of active recovery. Meaning walking fast, treadmill, step ups, swimming,...you get the idea. That's about it.

Enjoy life,

Janie

Thanks Janie!

I learned that lesson too with my legs. When I started doing the circuit training, I wasn't ready for a lot of the moves they were doing but did them anyway. My knees paid the price and I lost about 4 weeks in letting them settle down. It was mostly tendinitis and not in the joints themselves, thank goodness. But anyway, that's what prompted me to look for a better way and I found her!

Tomorrow is supposed to be "brisk walking outside for 40 minutes". Well, we're covered with ice and snow and it's not practical so I'm going to try the CTX interval routine for 40 minutes. I just watched it and I think I can do it. If something hurts, I'll back off because I don't want to waste any more time recovering from something stupid I did.

Right now I'm seeing some great results just 3 weeks in with Cathe. My legs are much stronger, though not all the way there yet, and my clothes are really starting to hang on me! That's enough encouragement to keep going for sure!

Thanks for all the great advice! I always look forward to hearing from everyone and getting good advice and encouragement.

Susan:)
