The Gazelle

Has anyone used this equipment? I've read good reviews but I wonder how far a person could take her fitness on the thing? Any opinions appreciated.

Thanks!

In my opinion, the Gazelle would be great for someone who has never exercised. It would get them moving with little impact on the joints. I've gotten on one and it was really REALLY easy for me. I couldn't imagine it doing anything for anyone who was reasonably fit.

I agree with Carolyn. My brother has this and said it was a waste of money. He is in great physical condition and this thing doesn't even get his HR up.

Not only does the gazelle strike me as one of the most inane pieces of "fitness" equipment but so does that hefty, box of rocks dude who promotes it. At this point, isn't easier just to go for a power walk or jog??

I have it. I got it last Christmas. I thought it would be an excellent alternative to a treadmill and much cheaper than one too! Well, using the resistance (if you purchase the model that has that option!) makes for a decent leg work out but for cardio I agree that it is pretty much a waste unless you are a beginner.

Thanks ladies! I'll pass that on. My bro is looking for new equipment and I said I would check here.

Consumer Reports reviewed this piece of equipment last year in their January issue. The biggest critcism they had was that the machine produced an unnatural gait that put a lot of stress and pressure on the knees and hips. They recommended passing on this and going with a good quality tread mill.

I'll echo what the others have said. Piece of junk! :p We had one for a few short months (DH bought it, not me!). It didn't provide a good workout at all, and the motion was very unnatural-feeling. I can see how it could cause knee and hip injuries over time. We gave ours to Goodwill.
