The elliptical kicked my butt!

SRP

Cathlete
Oh man, did I have a workout last night! You think Cathe has an evil genius for devising killer workouts? I hope I never meet the devil who designed Program 8 on my elliptical! It was the interval routine from you-know-where. I cringed every time it changed resitance. Just because it went down to 4 or 5 didn't mean a break. Oh no. It expected me to pedal harder!

When I got off to cool down, my legs were trembling. I couldn't just go into a regular cool down. My legs simply would not do side to side movements. They were stuck in the forward and back mode, so I had to go outside to walk around. Then I came back in and mopped up a huge puddle of sweat - yes, really. And wiped down the machine. Too much info? Sorry! :p

The calorie counter said I burned 840 calories. I don't know how accurate that actually is, but it was impressive to watch the number climb.

I know some of the reason it was so hard was because I'm fairly new to this thing, and my legs aren't used to that much forward-and-back. They like the variety of step choreography. But trust me, it was a darned hard workout.

If anyone's curious, I have a ProForm XP 130 from Sears.

Shannon...I completely know the feeling. I just got my Elliptical about 3 weeks ago....I did I think #9 on mine last week....WOW!!!! I went all the way up to resistance 10 (the highest on my machine) hitting each resistance for 4 min from 5 up. I could not wait to get to the top. Thank god I got to come back down. I don't think the calorie counter is accurate at all as you don't program in your ht and wt etc. But my HR gets as high even higher than when I run.....very impressive....:)..I have a Space Saver Elliptical from Nordic Track..

Carole - I'm just glad mine doesn't have any more than 8 programs! I'm sure #9 would kill me! :7

WOO HOO!!:D

Shannon, I'm so glad you're enjoying your new toy. Isn't it great? Were you using iTrain or Cardio Coach? I plan to download several of each. It kicks my butt, too and it's something I can do without the dread factor.

Michele - no, I was just using one of the programs that it came with. I haven't checked out the online stuff yet. I'll do that while on vacation!

Okay, all this and the fact that the elliptical at the gym kicked my rear on Sunday is making me seriously think of getting an elliptical instead of a treadmill for home. Especially since the pounding from running doesn't seem to be helping my hip at all. You all are such enablers!

Shelley, I agree with Carole. I would definitely take an elliptical over a treadmill and your joints will thank you, too;)

How about a happy dance instead of an arm twist...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/r/bigdance2.gif[/img]

Robin...I think Shelley might already hve been taken over by the great websites Michele posted....http://bestsmileys.com/dancing/4.gif[/img]

I think that is great Shannon! Good luck Shelly!

Ya know, the last few times I tried the elliptical (dare I say), I hated it! I don't know why, but it felt so awkward and uncomfortable. BUT, it was a long time ago when I certainly wasn't very fit. That may have been a contributing factor. I don't have access to one, or I might be tempted to try again. I will stick with the TM for now.
Good luck guys! I do know how cool it feels to have something you like so much!

Sorry Shell. I didn't mean to overwhelm you--I just got so excited for you--lol! It took me several weeks to decide which elliptical I wanted and I poured over the above websites--but not all in one day;)
