The effects of exercise on a breastfed baby?

Hi All

I was wondering if this is coincidence or not...

I'm breastfeeding my 4 week old and have, just this week, started exercising again since birth. What I've noticed since the first workout is how much more settled he is. He's no longer demand feeding every 30 minutes and is now going every 2 hours between feeds and generally he seems like a more settled baby. Has exercise had some effect on my milk? If it has, all the more reason to breastfeed huh? Or is this just coincidence?

Thanks if anyone can answer!

I wonder if the connection is you being more relaxed and allowing better milk production. It could also be the 4 week mark and he has started to adjust to life outside of the womb.
I have not heard of a link between exercise and a more settled baby.

Thanks for the reply shopaholic!

I think your suggestion is right, I just happened to be browsing thru my baby book for a solution to colic and it too states that around the 4 week mark things do settle down and baby starts to find a feeding pattern etc!! Things are improving daily giving me the time to get a workout in - not as often as I'd like but anything at the moment is a bonus! Finding time for yourself really does have a knock on effect.

Coco, I found when dd#1 was an infant, I often started and stopped workouts to nurse and change diapers but I still finished the tape and got back into shape. I began putting her in the swing too while I exercised which helped. I didn't do intense workouts though until my 6 week check up. Glad things are getting easier for you.
