I just love it as a fun cartoon BUT as someone who owns 5 cats, one of whom is more like a dog than a cat, it resonates. My Tangerine LOOKS like a long, lean orange tabby but behaves like a vicious pit bull whom the other cats clearly don't trust. But, more than the cat vs. dog thing I have just loved the look and feel of this little cartoon ever since it popped up on my Yahoo screen about a year ago: Paris (especially at night), the music, the way it's drawn, the push-and-pull between the cat and the dog... And if you live with both cats and dogs and pay attention it's obvious they actually like and admire (even envy) each other more than they'd ever admit to their own respective speices... You could probably read into it all sorts of big important meanings if you're so inclined but I just think it's a cute and funny remark on tolerance of the differences that exist among cats and dogs. But maybe it's just me
