Thanks ErinF - Mini Step Completed!

My DH finally got around to making my mini step. I got the instructions from you back in the summer. I had to leave the room when he started to make the cut. It looks great but the top slides around quite a bit on the risers. I was considering glueing the top to one riser. Do you think that would make it more steady?

Thanks again for the great instructions.

That's great!

That is too funny about you having to leave the room when your hubby started cutting! I remember one time when a poster questioned making her step quieter for stepping early in the morning while her kids slept, someone suggested putting a thin towel between the top riser and the topper. Maybe that would make your fit snugger also?? You might give it a try. Just make sure that the towel is not very thick so you don't lose that tongue & groove fit. You could probably use the glue also. I know there's a lot of happy steppers out there thanks to ErinF. Good Luck. Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Congratualtions! And some thoughts . . . :)

Hmmmm. If it slides around, it sounds like maybe the halves were cut just a hair too big. I've been trying to think of a way to correct that, but I can't think anything now that it's together. You could probably glue it to a riser, but that would deprive you of 1 riser, should you ever want to have your step built up for a weight bench. Plus I don't know if the glue would hold up without extra reinforcement, like you have on the topper. You would have to make a couple of brackets and attach them on the outside, screwed and glued like the ones on the bottom of your mini, which wouldn't look the best. Looking at mine, it didn't appear that attaching brackets on the inside to help join the riser and mini would work.

What about using some of that gripping shelf liner between the mini and the riser? I've used that under my step to keep it from sliding around on the bare floor at my in-laws', and it works great! That should also be thin enough not to interfere with the tongue and groove action as they fit together. I'll give it some more thought and let you know if I come up with anything else. Good luck!!! :)

Great Advice Debbie and Erin

I just tried the towel between the step and riser and that worked great. I think the non-skid liner would work too. We have used that around the house with much success. That way I can cut it to fit better than the towel. Thanks so much.
