Cathe,

I just wanted to send a note of thanks to you.

I am a 48 yr old female diagnosed with breast cancer in Jan 05; had a mastectomy. I just completed chemo, will start 7 wks of radiation today. You helped me through chemo. I have worked out with you and the "Gang" on FitTV for about a year now. I was always able to keep up with the weight lifting series (well except biceps, they are weaklings). Because of the strength those workouts created I was able to continue working out during chemo, with much lighter weights of course, but I was able to keep my workouts up. People tell me I look great, and it is you I want to thank!!

Keep up the good work! I'll send another note in 5 yrs when I can then be called a "Cancer Survivor" because I kept working out with you.

Thank you more than words can say.

Toni

What a wonderful story Toni! Welcome to Cathe's place. We look very forward to that post in five years! Keep up the good work. Cathe is the BEST! (Of course, you knew that! ;-))

Hi Toni! Thank you for sending such a touching note my way. You have been through so much and your positive spirit and physical strength will continue to see you through the rest. I'm looking forward to receiving that special note in five years. But until then continue to write me and let me know how you are doing. My friend has just gone through what you are going through and she now has removed her wig and let her whispy curls fly free in the air. She looks and feels wonderful and I'm sure you will too. My heart and soul goes out to you. Stay strong in mind and body. My prayers are with you.

Friendly Cyber Hugs,
Cathe

Toni ~ I just wanted to say you are amazing. You worked out during chemo! My poor sister was in bed the whole time sick as a dog. She had Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She has to go in every 3 months to have a body scan. The first one has come back clean. She now is considered in remission.

You have incredible strength. You must be so proud of yourself. Do keep us all posted.

Your story is so inspirational. We all have to count our blessing everyday!

Dallas

Thanks Dallas,

I wish only the best for your sister. She has it worse than I did. I was on my butt for about a week after chemo. After that I started working out easy and worked my way up to almost norm. I started radiation yesterday, it makes me tired, so I will keep it easy until I finish. There is no way I would give it up completely.

Thanks again for your kind words!!

Toni

Cathe,

I hope your friend has curly hair forever. I am still bald, but I can see little fuzz a coming in. Thanks for the prayers, I will keep you posted.

As you say "Cyber Hugs"

Toni -

Thank you so much for your timely message! I'm heading out next week to see my mom who is undergoing Chemo for Breast Cancer. It's my first brush with cancer and reading your message was like a ray of sunlight. I love you positive attitude and your strength to workout. I had been planning on helping my mom with exercises that she can do, and knowing that working out helped you through, will give me more of a push to get her to agree.

I am looking forward to your message in 5 years! You ROCK!

Christine,

Thanks for the kind words. If your mother would like to talk to me or just send e-mails back and forth, here is my information:

Cancer runs in my family (not breast, I am the first one) so I know how scary it is when a family member gets it, you just don't know what to expect. Since no one in my family ever had breast cancer, I felt kind of left out there with nobody to talk to about my options in a layman or friend to friend kind of way.

Thanks again for the kind words, and I know your mother will come through with "Flying Colors"!

Toni

Toni, your positive attitude is truly inspirational! I'm so impressed that you kept up with your workouts during chemo. Cathe does indeed deserve thanks for creating such wonderful workouts, but YOU are the one who mustered up the strength and energy to do them during such a difficult time and are continuing with them now.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you in 5 years, too, but until then, please visit and post on these forums. The people here are amazing!

Toni
I'm sending you well wishes and want to remark on your positive and grateful attitude. I look forward to your 5 year note, and also to your contribution on this very special forum.

PS My prayers are with you. I just wanted to say I've watched my SIL go through Breast CA and subsequent Lung CA (second primary) and now 7 yrs later she is in remission! Also have a second SIL in remission from Breast CA. Soon you will be there too!

Susan,

Thank you so much for the moral booster. I hate it when people have a bad period and want everybody to feel sorry for them instead of them doing something positive for themselves. Keeping a positive attitude and exercising helped me feel as much like myself as possible.

Your right, there are some pretty GREAT people in this forum, you happen to be one of them!!!!

Thanks again,

Toni

Hey Judy,

Sounds like your family in law has had it rough, but the fact they came through it is WONDERFUL!!!

I never had a doubt that I would be fine; I just decided I would do what I always do. The only thing I did not do this year that I usually do is ride my bike on the 189 mile MS150 ride in April, but I did go and support my husband. I'll make it up in October, since I will be done with all my treatments, yeah!!!!

Thanks so much for the well wishes, they really make my day.

Sincerely,

Toni

Hello, Toni - I'm a tad late coming to this thread, but I too wanted to offer my best wishes and sincerest admiration to you! In fact, you are who I want to be if I am ever diagnosed with and have to be treated for a serious illness!

I do hope you DON'T wait five years to post again. I know I, and many others here, truly value the experiences of others in the lifelong practice of health and fitness, especially the experiences of those who are climbing a few mountains!

Oh, and by the way - BALD ROCKS! I lost about 90% of my hair about 2+ years ago to alopecia, and although some areas of my scalp have made a hair-comeback, some other distinct patches haven't, so I keep the whole dome shaved. People almost always think I have undergone chemo! It's kind of cool to have a bald sistah on The Forums!

Thanks again for your posts. I'm inspired!

Toni -

You are one heck of a gal. Most people don't consider working out. I know when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy back in 1971 she went back to work as soon as she could. To this day, she says it was the best thing to get back out there even when she didn't feel like it.

Your attitude is so positive and I truly believe that is over half the battle. I'm sure you post will be an inspiration to others.

Sami

I'm another breast cancer survivor who kept working out through it all. Two years ago I was going through chemo (after a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy) and I believe keeping up with my workouts kept me going. I was already in the best shape of my life before the cancer and I was so afraid of losing it all so I tried to do something every day , even walking on the treadmill, just to keep active. As the healing progressed, I was back to doing my Cathe workouts as usual. After the chemo I had six weeks of radiation. I was a little fatigued from that, but I still kept going. People who didn't know me never imagined that I was going through cancer treatment because I looked so healthy. Oh, I found out that even when you're bald, you still sweat buckets!! My hair came back in very thick and curly and still is today, although I wouldn't recommend my method of getting it. Good luck, Toni, on your continuing health and progress.

Sami,

Your mother was right, getting back in, or keeping up as much of your normal routine as possible is the best therapy. I plan on staying strong and positive, because if cancer plans on making a comeback, I am going to kick its butt!!

Thanks for the kind words.

Toni

Hey A-Jock,

It is never to late to join in. I thank you for the support. Your right, BALD rocks. My kids think I look cool!

You said it, when you said health and fitness help you get over those mountains. Your a huffing and puffing a little more than usual because your body is trying to help you fight the disease, but that is no reason to give up, right!!!!!!

Take care, and thanks again.

Toni
