any catheites live in either austin or dallas tx? if so, how do you like it? do you think it's an expensive place to live?

thanks in advance for your responses!

Hey Sunny,

I lived in Austin and SA and loved it. Currently in Houston and it's ok, but Austin is by far one of the best places to live in TX IMO. It is fun, plenty of things to do and a growing economy. The city is getting a little packed right now with a lot of people moving there, but if I was given the opportunity to move back, I would not think twice!

Depending on where you live now, Texas is very cheap in contrast to other places. We don't pay state taxes so you save $$ there. Austin is not the least expensive place to live in TX but worth it for the most part.

Hope that helps!

The main reason I live here is because it is one of the few affordable (if there is such a thing anymore) places to live that is nice. It has it's downfalls, it can be very hot.
I live in the suburbs outside of Dallas and like it very much. We have a nice 2100 square foot home. The homes in our neighborhood average 160-175,000 and it is a nice, middle class neighborhood.

IF you like city living better, I would suggest Austin over Dallas as I think the downtown area there is nicer. Since I am not a big city girl per se, I like my area. But I hardly go into Dallas unless I am in the mood for some big city nightlife and that's rare.

I am originally from CA and moved here in 1990. I couldn't afford to go back there now, nor would I want to.

hope that helps some, let me know if I can answer anything else for you.

Hi. I live in between Dallas and Fort Worth. I do like my neighborhood, the size of my city (Arlington), the wide variety of activities available and of course the cost of living but HATE HATE HATE the heat. It keeps my family indoors from the end of May to the middle of October.

Dallas is a very cool place with lots to do but I agree Austin is better-maybe because I don't live there?!

I live in a Dallas suburb, Frisco. I love it! Great shopping, restraunts. One thing I think is very expensive are the property taxes - pay attention to what the property taxes are when picking a city. They are trying to change a law or something to provide relief to homeowners - but in turn I think it hurts small biz owners. Anyway, I believe groceries are cheaper, when I go out of town I always compare the basics. Gas is usually in the middle when it comes to the national average. Dallas has great shopping - you can always find a good deal! From the outlets (everything from Neiman Marcus and Saks to Puma and Liz Claiborne) to the high scale resale (Clothes Circuit *the best). I think housing is average definately lower than east or west coast though. But we do not have basements - I miss those. The weather is usually pretty good - we have a bad summer every once in a while - this happens to be one because we have not had rain. I rarely get out my heavy coat during the winter and usually it is only extremely hot from mid july to the end of August. Fall and spring temps seem to be the majority of the year. Good luck!

I have lived in suburbs of Dallas/Fort Worth for over 22 years. I love the diversity. The town we live in is kind of courtry like, small town feel but close to malls and such. Still has some open spaces. There is a property just down the street from our house with horses. Of course some day it will be sold and turned into a subdivision, but for now we enjoy it. The job market seems to be good right now.
