Test says I am ... but I'M NOT!

I've all ready had two children. I went off the pill in February thinking about number three, but husband is working out of state sooo, it complicates things.

My cycle isn't like clock work, but the longest I had, right when I went off, was 36 days. That's been since February. Well, today was day 36 and there's no signs it's coming. An at-home test today came up with a "light" positive. I have no symptoms. My last period was Aug. 6 and I swear we haven't had sex since then (not that hard to track given the circumstances). WHAT IS GOING ON? I do take Zoloft and Wellbutrin but it doesn't seem like that would give a false positive. Thoughts? Should I call the doctor and tell them it's immaculate conception???? They're gonna think I"m nuts. Wait another week and test again? A false negative wouldn't have weirded me out this much! Any ideas would be sooo appreciated!

Hmmm ... the only thing I can think of is an evaporation line. Did you wait longer than the recommended time before reading the test? Sometimes you will get a faint line if you wait too long ... During the time I was ttc, I was a testing maniac and have been through all kinds of "what if?" scenarios - including the evap line!

I hope you solve your mystery soon :)

I had this happen once, and I KNEW I wasn't pregnant, but I hadn't had a period, so I thought I'd just check. The line was very faint, but there. I know they always say you can't get a false positive, but I disagree with that. I went to my doctor the next day for a blood serum test which came back as negative. Go to the doc and see what's going on.

Hi,
That happened to me last month. I had 3 pos. tests. Also, AF was late by a few days. I started to bleed, so I called my doc and had an exam and blood work to confirm that I was NOT pregnant. They said it may have been a chemical preg (something about hormone levels) or a very early mc. I will take my doc's advice from now on and not test until I have missed a period by a few weeks. Good luck on TTC.

p.s. Back in June when I had my annual exam, I told my dr. that I was going to start TTC soon. He said to do him a favor and NOT take a test until after I had missed my period for a few weeks, like I had said. Of course, I didn't listenx( . He said that so many women call in a panic because they think they were preg, but than got their periods. I had no idea this was so common!

I have heard a lot of women miscarry so early on they never really knew they were pregnant. On evaluating my situation again... I think I am. But thankfully this would be #3 so I'm beyong the panic-call-the-doctor right away stage. I'll probably wait another month of so to call.

Maybe your last period wasn't really a period. Maybe it was spotting and you are further along than you think. A good friend of mine had spotting during her pregnancy.

I had a similar thing happen back in March, a bunch of faint positives and I was sure I couldn't be pregnant due to timing circumstances similar to yours. But...lo and behold, I'm now 8 mos pregnant. So...you never know. I make immaculate conception jokes all the time :) ...though my guess is that I ovulated incredibly late that month.

Either way, I hope things work out the way you want them to. Sounds like you're ready for #3 if it's time and if not, there's always more time.

Best of luck to you!

Steph

You never know on the timing because I'm pregnant and I went for an early ultrasound that was supposed to be done at 12 weeks and I was supposedly 12 1/2 weeks along and when they did the ultrasound they found out I was only 6 1/2 weeks! My last period was April 27th and I apparently conceived sometime in the beginning of June. So I ovulated more than a month after my last period. So you never know.

Did you do more than one test?

Good luck.
Amy

I did several, and I haven't had a period since Aug. 6th. And I think my breasts are starting to get tender. Just having to face the whole pregnancy/labor/recovery/baby thing again... ugggh. Granted this was a choice not an "oops", but I'm not one to LOVE pregnancy (which to me means stopping my running again) and babies are great but I really like about 2/3 years old and on.
