Tankless Water Heaters

Anyone here have one or know someone who does? Do you (they) love it? I just spent I-don't-know-how-long long running water until it turned hot and thought 'This is so ridiculous... If I had one of those tankless water heater's I'd have instant hot water...' Being able to shower and wash clothes in hot water AT THE SAME TIME and always having instant hot water would really turn me on... but not in a, you know, sexual way.

Well, okay. Maybe.

I don't know if I have ever heard of a tankless water heater. In Germany, I didn't have the traditional water heater like we have in the US. There are reservoirs/tanks above sinks and tubs that heat the water. Is that what you are talking about? If yes, they are nice...until they run out of water. You then need to wait until the new water in the tank is heated.

We just saw a commercial about them and it has peaked our interest. We have 2 tanks in our house and one has been leaking.:(

My bf has those in house house. I helped install them, and he's had them for almost 3 years. It takes a few seconds for the hot water to come out. It is nice to never run out of hot water and not have big tanks hogging space. I don't think they are terribly expensive, either.

We have had one for about 10 years now and never had a problem with it yet. It is a gas tankless, I believe a Nokia or something like that. We did not buy a cheap one from Home Depot but went with a private company and it cost about $1200.00 installed. We have an older home and wanted to take the old tank out of the laundry area to make room for a pantry and had the tankless installed outside on the side of the house. It is not instant hot water and takes a minute or so for the water to get hot but we never run out of hot water and since it is also gas the pilot only come on when you turn the water on. So far we have been happy with it and you don't have to worry with draining anything.

It's what we had in Germany, it's nice to not run out of hot water everytime you take a shower and run the washing machine at the same time.

They are a lot more energy efficient than the regular water heaters here in the US. Some people will keep the pilot light on the water heater on which uses up some energy, if you turn the pilot light off it will take a few minutes to get hot water.

I would look into how much you can save in energy cost in comparison what you have to lay out upfront to get it installed. This website had some good info
